as the title says. ive been busy!.. really. i work for the 2nd largest insurance brokers in the world as the it manager (for ireland). in the 40 years the company has been here in ireland, weve never had an it person working for the company as a full time person.. well, until i came along. picture dumb terminals, green screens, token ring networks, as 400s, no mail, no servers, no pc's... nothing and anything they had, was ancient.

[insert me]. picture win2000 network, picture standardisation accross all desktops and platforms, picture a proper firewall with decent internet access, picture content managment, picture good servers, picture good pc's.. its a bloody picture! i could go on here, but you get the idea.

so, i've been busy, even more so recently. i just finished linking our cork office to our dublin office on a leased line using terminal services on w2k for connectivity. cool stuff. anyway, im about to link our uk offices to dublin over the internet via a nice vpn. i have it actually communicating, now to get the info to work!

i dont have much to say about quake and gaming at the moment. ive read the threads about irish quake and tbh, i really could not be arsed responding to some of the people and their comments there. all talk and no action for one part and the 2nd part is the whole dnc/nethouse thing which, imho, its old news and people keep bringing it up.

some news on the irish national team, team.ie. this looks interesting and while im usually the first to step up and help out, this time, i have to sit back and let other people do the dues. im just too busy with my work and home life. speaking of which, i feel that those two things have completely taken over things as late and i wonder.. am i getting a life? god, i don't know.

people don't "keep bringing it up". It hadn't been mentioned in a long time if at all, and most people didn't know the story, which is why I posted about it.

I proposed last night to meet up the good old way, in a meeting room, without computer. I believe it's the only way to make some changes now (please read post 57 on the Irish Quake column). I'm really busy myself and try to apply project management techniques to my life to save time. It seems to work a bit (I'm reading "how to run successful projects" by Fergus O'Connell, it's good).

I know none of you lads (appart from x0n who's a good mate) but I'm willing to give a serious hand to make things moving positively forward. I just believe that all the forums talking solutions are done, now it's time to meet, have an action plan and do the shit.

fair enough zero. Point made.

Mike, No, I dont work for Prudential.

Spectator, perhaps Im just old and cynical and I think it is all talk and no action. But record shows different in some respects. Don't get me wrong, I will help as much as possible and I sincerly hope something comes of the hard work.
