i've been playing a shit lad of quake3 over here in the states and have ventured into some new q3 mods for fun. the best and one of the most popular mods if called ufreeze.

the mod is based on the old freeze tag but with addded osp features like force models, etc added in there.

not only that its the first mod for quake3 that has built in lag compensation. which means that its the closest thing to playing on lan while competing online. the ufreeze servers are alwasy full over here and imo the lag compression is amasing.

i really recommend that this be run on one of the irish quake3 servers because its friendly to both lpb and hpb plus the mod rocks.

heres a link to the mod old.fileplanet.com/dl/dl.asp?/planetquake/alternatefire/ufreeze-1.01-final.zip

enjoy

its not the first with builtin lag compensation, unless thats something different to what the UnLagged mod provides? if not then unlagged and urban terror offer similar lan-style play already.

Aside from the occasional glitch in the code lag compensation code rocks

Whenever I have been in the US, I've played loads of Freeze. The servers were always full. When I came back I put a news item up about it trying to get someone to set up a Freeze server, but still none. With the new UFreeze, I've only heard about it, but not played it. If it's half as good as the first one (Freeze) was then a server should definitely be put up. It'd help bring some fun back into Quake3.

there are UK freeze servers that never have Irish people playing on them, aside from PUG{eRZ} as far as I can see. I think an Irish q3 freeze tag server would be empty a lot... whenever we play freezetag at lans, most people agree that its fun but don't want to play it for long. I'd be afraid that if they put up a freeze server they'd take down the current q3 server, which is used a lot.

Its the only mod out there that allow both lpb and hpb to compete on a semi even level. I think it would help get new 56k players onto the server. Even myself on 200 ping from the states can compete on with the built in lag.

Put it up and trial it for a month. You never know till you try.

ya I'd play it for the unlagged thing... even better would be a normal OSP server with the unlag, if it were possible

I know what you mean Killy, I suppose the lack of resources here for gamers in general means that the servers have to be rationed.

The unlagged thing is a bad idea for serious competition for any number of reasons - mostly, because it means the server isn't what decides when things hit or not. One of the UT guys wrote about this in his .plan a long time ago, but I can't be arsed to look for it right now.

If freezetag's what you're after tho, you should think about entering the 2v2 tournament the BW freeze tag league's running. It's with promode 1 so any qw'ers should have an instant advantage, plus, well, freeze tag rocks.
