| i got my new pc over a week ago, p4 2.4ghz with gf4 ti4200. it has made q3 a lot more playable. i finally got my p992 19” flat screen dell trintron monitor - its so much nicer to use than a sucky ev700. lg and mg in particular seem much easier.
on some maps i get a solid 333 fps and it makes a huge difference to the physics. on my p3 450, i used to cap my fps at 76... and although i didn't get 76 fps solid i could move adequately, could make bridge to rail on pro-dm6 usually, sometimes would make rail -> ya on osp6. 333 fps makes it so easy... i just tested it out online (i’ve been forced to use 76fps everytime i play on cloud.ign.ie to prevent my connection from flooding.) for some reason it doesn't work on my own server, even though cg_drawfps says i'm getting 333 fps, i cant do the jumps as easily.
here is a zip which contains demos of 4 jumps: on pro-dm6, bridge to rail in one jump. on ospdm6: the balcony to ya, ya to rail and back a couple of times, and also bouncepad to ra (which i also attempted with 125 fps to show the difference). my technique is not good, but the fact that an average jumper can make these jumps easily shows what a difference 333 fps makes. this is confirmed in this link which melachi showed me.
333fps can be awkward at times, especially on dm6 and cpm4, since you'll often move too high or too far, e.g, going up rail bouncepad on dm6 you might hit the arch. it could be a huge advantage for attacking in ctf though, when you move much faster (although you sacrifice maneuverability i think). i doubt many people can get a solid 333fps on the 3wave maps, but every millisecond counts for an attacker and it could mean the difference between a cap and a holyshit. i actually think this is too much of an advantage for people with good pcs, and as much as i hate to say it, it would be handy if osp or q3 could cap the fps at 125.
i phoned esat about dsl. there are two exchanges in cork city center which provide adsl. you have to be within 2.5km from the exchange to be able to get dsl. i live less than a mile from the city center, but had no idea where the exchange is. unfortunately, they emailed me to say that i’m not close enough. i actually don’t believe them, i think they lost my details again since they’re so incompetent, but theres nothing i can do i suppose. except find a place to rent that is close enough to the exchange.
this means fh will have to struggle on without any broadbanders for now. bwctfl wasn't too laggy though, aside from a couple of weeks where we saw a lot of 180ping. in the end we finished 4th in div2a, but i think if we had been sorted at the start of the season, we could have done a lot better. i was in america the start of the season, and lorc didn't show up till about week 6, so whenever nex was working and vincent decided to reinstall windows 5 minutes before a league match, we were really stuck for a team. this resulted in a lot of missed points, but it doesn't make much difference though, since i don't think we would have achieved promotion anyway.

i saw this on sar’s website, the yarn. nobody believes it, i checked it in photoshop and the two squares are the same colour. if you don't have photoshop, test it in mspaint. purely insane.
