greetings and felicitations, for some reason mindphuk decided to give me a

column so ill avail myself of the privilage to air what few things i have

going on at the moment.

first up a big shout about the barrysworld cpml, masterminded by drex and

hosted by barrysworld "your best gaming solution".

it took a while to get

off the ground but thanks to the hard work and serious ideas of a number off

ppl (bigfoot, drex, myself,mp and the guys from #promode) it seems to have

taken off and signups are now being accepted. to prove the validity of

running a cpm league it was decided that a 2v2 format would be the best way

to progress.

given the furor over promode and the so called splitting of the

community over its different physics weapon switching times and various

other changes, we thought this was best to test the waters so to speak, see

which teams who had expressed interest actually turnup and how the

competition progressed so we could tweak the format to suit a 4v4

competition in the following seasons, were hoping for a minumum 24 teams to

signup to give the competition a more diverse skill level with a cup to

decide divisional seedings (tho im not 100% sure about this).

people have

expressed displeasure at the 1 map * 15 mins format and i believe that this

may well be changed lookout for news on the bwcpml website. i like cpm but find that because ill be helping to admin the

league ill have no time to play in it (typical!) which a bit naff but im

happy to ensure others get that good quality high speed fraggin that cpm

provides, that is not to say vq3 doesnt provide a similar rush but .... *4

lg anyone ?.

in a continuation for fun fraggin i was one convinced by minphuck to have a

bash at qw, now i had played zer0 qw q1 or q2 before i started playing

q3test, so it all lookedpretty much naff to me. what play with no eye candy,

omg its an antique, ye gads the physics , eh no rail ?, wtf maps ?, were my

first impressions on finaly semi mastering the art of quizmo and ye olde

shortcut commandline options (thanks for -dibonly fors).
so then onto the

first taste of gameplay ( i must admit the kteams way of deciding games is

pretty nifty osp could learn summit from that)to say i got raped would be to

paint a picture of a player who at least could move around and dodge

rockets/shaft, i was disheartened and returned to irc to give mp a piece of

my mind instead i recieved sage advice from the old fucka () and drex let

me inherit his config, now to demonstrate how newbie i was/am i played a

succession of qw pickup tdms each time being totally unable to 1) see the

nme or navigate round the maps cos it was all to dark 2) tell who was on my

team cos they all looked the same and 3) aim, well drex's config sorted the

first 2 and mp's advice and practice semi sorted the third, now after about

8 days of qw i find myself quite proficiant and believe (maybe

mistakenly)that i have the potential to become fairly good. to say i have

enjoyed the games i have played so far would be an understatement man 3 hrs

can fly by before one needs a spliff or coffee, totally intense gameplay and

quite fun as well the netcode feels way more stable than q3 and shaft just

owns so then if q1/qw is the "roots" of the concept of quaking i believe

more ppl should take it up if only for the sheer fun it provides.

and now i come to a sad crossroads in my quake 3 obsession, as some of you

may know and others say who ? i am empedocles and i play for clan hatstand,

greatest bunch of lads i ever did play with, but alas all is not right and

proper and i find myself wishing to take a break from q3 tdm in order for

the squad to grow without my doom and gloomy approach, to lay it out a bit

more plainly, i am quiting the q3 tdm side of the squad at the end of the season (cant leave the lads without a team) , its like one of

those things, um like having to cut out a branch so the whole plant can grow

and i am that branch, i still hope to reside with hat for other gaming

opportunities but if thats not on the cards then so be it.

well thats me hope it wasnt to boring for ya

(edit) o i forgot to mention our last bwdml game in which we defeated clan pr^ convincingly according to sar it was because i was warping and not because hat had both superior skills and tactics, well according to my demos i had a steady 40 ping the whole game and all was smoothness and light (bar the odd server hike), it was a great game in which the squad played very well and we enjoyed taking the game to pr^ who oddly enuff in our last clan meet in savage had a player/admin we played one game on a nuetral server which sucked, then pr^ decided to adjurn to wireplay were they all had low ping and consistent connection.

now as a rule bw only allow playa/admin when there are absolutley no alternatives and last night was one of those situations , now maybe they had that savage game in mind were they made shady descisions in order to get a win , cos i was asked by the maz (head admin that eve) to play/admin the game, now i have been in the bw admin team for 4 seasons now so i think my impartiality is beyond question at this point, but of course the lads from pr^ decided to push the issue and had maz attend the game (for a chap admning 2 games at once he did a spiffing job). then paste to that yarn webby effort both the fact that i was warping(hence they lost) and that i was a deposed admin (like huh ?), i can only take this to mean they thought i would be likely to turn the server settings against em or try shady packet diversion tactics or summit.

i mean comon ffs this is bw the best of its kind (yeah yeah i know there are others but imo)like im actually gunna do something so sad and low and lower barrysworld standing and be seen as a pariah of the community, tis very sad imo and they deserve pity for it.

enjoy

aye take it PR... i have my own reasons... i forget nothing
anyway.... even if u were warping, thats a totally stupid excuse for losing a game, because its always worse for the guy who is warping because hes suffering from the PL.

about the cpmleague.... if it was 4v4 i would have signed FH up in an instant, but 2v2 is gah.

i disagree with u in saying that a 2v2 format would be the best way to prove the validity of running a CPM league . i don't think 2v2 would give a good indication of the commitment the q3 community would have towards a cpm league, because its so different to 4v4. like.. if ye got a load of defaults in the 2v2 league, that doesn't mean ppl arne't committed to cpm, it means they're not committed to 2v2. There are lots of clans like FH (especially those with qw backgrounds) that would be fully committed to a cpm 4v4, and its a WHOLE different game to cpm 2v2.. entirely differnet maps, strategy, and players.

i think the best (only?) way to prove the validity of a cpm 4v4 league is to run a cpm 4v4 league. Starting off small, maybe invite only or something with clans you know won't default - like Roots... this is their chance to prove themselves also, you say bigfoot helped out... i'm sure he would easily be able to pick 7 reliable clans from the BWDML that don't default 4v4's and that have an interest in cpm.

i know that the league is decided as 2v2, and it won't be changed at this stage, i'm just saying that i disagree with where you're coming from.

In hindsight it would seem a 4v4 comp may have been a more appropriate format, so point taken there but the season will be fairly short and if it proves popular a 4v4 will follow, as I stated tho community reception was foremost in our minds as we decided the first seasons format (tho speaking to many cpm d00lers may not have helped this process \0/ ). Still the amount of signups is promising thus far, so may be we made the right decision, maybe not only time will tell thanx for the input tho well appreciated
