| so ehh...been thinking about the irish team today. i wrote the following column sometime this morning, and decided to take it down and put up something a little more constructive :
esreality: comment #11 @ 01:58, 28 nov 2002 by anonymous (p110.as1.exs.dublin.eircom.net) (reply) for once ireland had good pings, now only if the team would practice at least once together
i'm going to explain the situation with the irish team out here in the open, as there seems to be anonymous comments thrown in here and there and implications in news items etc about the way the team is being run, and i'd rather things be said in the open so if anyone has a problem with the team they can reply here to me.
it's very simple. the best 4 players ireland can put out in a tdm game as things stand, is anarchy koopa ser vincent. koopa and ser are having trouble getting online at the moment, or at least, getting online at a time when the team could practise against some heavy opposition. so an alternative would be for me to say "ok, if they dont have the time, i'm picking two more guys". so i could put out a team of anarchy vincent and two other guys off the panel. then this irish team could practise every night or two and get used to playing with each other against tough teams, get used to (loose) "positions" on maps, and get used to playing in places like .nl servers. in my opinion, as the captain of the team, this new team still wouldn't put on as good a performance as the team with koopa and ser on it. which is why the team is being run the way it is. comments ??
there is a lot going on at the moment, for once, in irish quake, and the problems we come up against are usually because there are people who will do stuff, and there are people who will say what should be done and lol away to themselves, and then there are people that are just there doin shit for themselves or whatever they do. i try and "do" stuff in the irish scene, and the two other people i see that pull out the finger are mindphuck and killy. with mp kinda offline atm, and clan stuff going on, nobody has a lot of time to do anything. a simple list of "shit thats going on" in irish scene atm, or at least, that concerns the irish scene : ie tdm, ie ctf, fh ctf, vin's gt qw, nd tdm (bw/cb playoffs), ser's redux qw, koopa's qhlan qw, mel+anarchy's sof2. add work and college to that and you find you have a hell of a full schedule. koopa doesnt arrive home til late at night, ser often the same. then add the fact that the two "accessible" tdm players for team.ie also play on the ctf team so if killy organises ctf, there isnt a hope of tdm. now, to try and put an end to my rambling here, the bottom line is that like i said in the since-deleted post above, i feel that a team of vincent koopa ser anarchy beats any team that we can put out, and seeing as they couldnt be got together, any practise that jim or vin get in general on their own is as good as we can provide. but since thinking that and chatting with dancunt, i think we just have to force it, squeeze a team.ie practise in where-ever we can, be it just for a map at a time.
so here's the deal: sunday, monday and tuesday next, at 10pm, we are going to have proper training, proper meaning chris, koopa, anarchy and vin. if it clashes with somethin it clashes, but we'll get at least one good night's training in there. i'll try and be on for them all but ff i'm not on at any time (i spend 10hrs a day here in this office, i try not to spend 24), killy or someone else will take charge. for sunday, we will have internals, with realistic internal opposition, anyone who can turn up, please do. the most important thing is that ser and koopa make it for this if they can. our 4 guys played well last night against a serious uk lineup, but the team could have gotten a better result, and the next team we play, we'll make them pay for our uk game.
