for the past year
i`ve been using a ms optical 1.1, which is a good enough mouse,
but i often find that it skips and gives me a little spin movement. it often feels
that it can only be used with certain boundaries and once you pass this it will
give the faggeh spin effect.

about 2-3 weeks ago i was the lucky winner of a signed
mousemat from fh|
spaceman
,
its a ratzpad, one of the early ones, but a damn fine mat anyway, prior to that
i was using a cornflakes box whci gives me a nice big footprint, the ratz is slightly
smaller. so anyway i upgraded to a ms optical 3.0, which is the
best mouse i`ve used. but the ratzpad is a bit hard to get used to after 6 months
of a kellogs box. i was looking for a large mouse mat, but not willing to buy
a fan boy fatpad, nipped into the local stationery shop, selected the material
i wanted (card with textured finish) in a1 size and took it home and cut it up
into 4 potential mouse mats, now the size of this is around a3 paper size, so
far so good, need a week or so to break it in. but i think it would be difficult
for lan`s and stuff due to the size, i`ll post up some pics of it later, anyway
here`s a nice webby on mousemats and all that jazz : here

I used allsop with ballmouse, only 5quid in compustore and lasts ages (cloth mousemat) and when i got optical mouse i expected to get a new mousemat but never got around to it and the allsop has done just fine. I wouldnt spend a lot on a big fancy mousemat, although your one sounds cool

I've got 2 Glidetapes BIG pads (fairly big but not too big to fit on ur desk) black and white. 4 small glidetapes pads, 360 cm of glidetapes and a can of "GLIDETAPES SPRAY" (SILICON SPRAY).

i dont fancy buying a pad, altho i was impressed with spacemans func surface 1030, it`s the size thing, all these mouse mats seem quite small, i`m not sure if i`m in favour of the slideh effect, i like a little resistence. Altho this seems like early days in what will lead me to my most comfortable playing surface, i`ve expermented with paper, card board, plastic coated card, and what i have now which is basic card, oh and wallpaper. I`ll be nipping into a textile shop in the search for thicker card, finished surface.

I've been using a ratpad since i first got my latest pc, but got fed up with it eventually and purchased a 4S Steelpad and some padsurfers off komplett.

At first, I didn't know wheter I loved it or hated it...its definately 'different'. Slippery as a pig in shit, especially with the 'icemat padsurfers' on the feet..and not those shity ones that come with it. Its plenty big for low sensi play. Just two minor flaws.

1. Its REALLY noisy. You wouldnt believe it until you hear it.
2. If your hands are excessivly sweaty, or just a bit too warm. You'll leave pools of water on the pad..which mess up tracking.

All in all tho..im quite happy with it now.

If you like cloth tho..those allsop 'teardrop' pads are the best.

oh and Saik..I fail to see how laminating anything would help. Shiny, clear surfaces dont work with any opticals from what i've seen.

yeah u fail to see, the optical tracks the laminated paper underneath, easy.
