just read something on the loved boaerards.ie forums by one of those irishbroadband people.
they are starting a 1 mb gaming package.
(1mb up and down)
some nice <10ms pings to uk.

"you need to be within about 6kms from tallaght, guinness or 3 rock. the pings are fairly stable – with a typical ping to the gateway of 2ms.

the connection would be 1meg up/down (1:8) in the day – and (1:4) in the evenings.

the install fee is the same as the current install fees. the monthly cos is e100 + vat."

i want i wantttttt.

The office where I work has a 1mb/1mb Irish Broadband connect, on existing 2.4ghz technology, not the new 5ghz stuff. Only a few hundred metres from RTE tower with clear line of sight, in game pings are normally around 20 - 30ms to uk. IBB does fuck up sometimes though..

ive donated to quake.ie!

quozl had a 1mb/1mb connect with Irish Broadband, and you how close he lived to the RTE tower with clear line of sight, and although his dos ping was super low at times the first hop was just very unstable. It was so bad he ended up switching to Leap. I wonder if this will be any better... how do they guarantee the first hop is stable enough to satisfy serious gamers?

He said that it's a different technology
"different frequency range – and also different technology."
