yep, i bought the new optical razer viper. it's nice, light, and well, cheap looking. it's 1000dpi (however they rate these things) and it got an overall good review at tom's hardware.

razer viper picture

my opinion of it is that it's a really nice mouse, very precise and definitely a no-frills job: there are only two buttons and a roller. and these buttons are styled in exactly the same way they were on the boomslang, e.g. long and wide. it's not as low as to the table as it's ball-driven relatives were, in fact, it's about the same size and feel as the standard ball-driven ms intellimouse was (v1.0 - 1.2). my only qualm is that if you don't keep your finger in the relative center of the left button, it will sometimes catch the lip of the right-hand button; and vice-versa.

so, the verdict: who gives a fuck. it's only me talking.

it has gotten a lot of shit reviews cause of the crazy skipping on mid to low sens, which in turn made me choose not to buy it.

I play very low sens, with high mouseaccel, haven't noticed any skipping. Skipping usual arises from having a badly (read: unsuitable) textured or reflective surface under the mouse, but I'm sure I'm just too shit to notice anyhow...

I got one, and the skipping has nothing to do with the surface, I used a black icemat ver2, a cloth supermat, a piece of white paper, and my table, all with the same results. If you move the mouse very quickly it sorta stops, skips around + spazzes out, then goes back to normal movement. I even put it on max sensitivity and I could still make it happen. In normal playing in counter-strike it made any snap shots impossible, as well as trying to do a 180 degree turn. In order to never have the skipping problem you have to put your in-game sensitivity so high that no sane human can use it. I just went back to my mx700 and I'm going to try to get my money back.
