for those of you who dont know, this is cloud9 attacker "cl0ck", having won nearly every ctf lan tournement in the last two years, its fair to say they are the best ctf clan in the world right now.as well as being a very impressive runner, hes also a handy 1v1 player.anyway i caught up with him over the weekend.
<img src="http://www.thejadegarden.com/files/profile_pics/cl0ck.jpg">

<baz>i am a columnist from irish quaker site www.quake.ie , i was wondering would it be possible for a few short questions? nps if youre busy

<k|cl0ck[9]> yah
<k|cl0ck[9]> sure
<k|cl0ck[9]> id love to do it

<baz>cool
<baz>many irish quakers followed the exploits of cloud9 in the recent qlan2 tournament, six weeks on; does it still feel good to have won?

<k|cl0ck[9]> yah, it feels great
<k|cl0ck[9]> its an amazing feeling to know that youre the best in the world at something

<baz>true
<baz>how does the european competition shape up to the us teams you have played?

<k|cl0ck[9]> european competition is the most intense out there. for years, in my opinion, europe was leading the fps gaming scene, with the exception of counter-strike maybe, i feel that the competition in europe was 10 times greater than anything weve faced in america

<baz>who impressed you most from qlan2?

<k|cl0ck[9]> everyone
<k|cl0ck[9]> we went in there thinking that we would be able to dominate
<k|cl0ck[9]> we first scrimmed against foe, and they handed us our asses on every map
<k|cl0ck[9]> we realized that we needed to realize that all the teams at the event were far better than weve ever practiced/played against in the states, with the exception of maybe 519
<k|cl0ck[9]> but over all, 32nd impressed me the most
<k|cl0ck[9]> we had to change all our strats right there at the event
<k|cl0ck[9]> which made it very stressful
<k|cl0ck[9]> practicing a certain way for months and month before
<k|cl0ck[9]> then having to completely change the day of the tournament
<k|cl0ck[9]>

<baz>early on, with your map choice of wcp15, many irish were saying that you were one map wonders, but you guys played some very impressive games on both ctf2 and wcp9, do you think it was efficient tactics that gave you the advantage?

<k|cl0ck[9]> yes
<k|cl0ck[9]> we are not one map wonders, we just pick cp15 because we know that europes experience on it doesnt match up to americas
<k|cl0ck[9]> but in reality, we are equally as solid on all maps. especially cp9 and ctf2
<k|cl0ck[9]> and after playing aaa, our strats on ctf2 only enhanced
<k|cl0ck[9]> what gives us the constant edge on teams, is that we create defensive tactics that no one has ever seen or played against
<k|cl0ck[9]> and we usually change it just enough so that it each new event we attend, the other teams that have maybe watched us play or studied our demos realize that theyve wasted their time
<k|cl0ck[9]> because of the level of flexability our defense has, and how much we change all the time based on the team and event were at.
<k|cl0ck[9]> :d

<baz>yes, we noticed the style on wcp9, of sweeping hi/lo defs, as opposed to the standard flag man that is often played here the standy railer

<k|cl0ck[9]> yah, hehe

<baz>4v4, or 5v5 - what’s your preference?

<k|cl0ck[9]> dont have one
<k|cl0ck[9]> completely different games in my opinion
<k|cl0ck[9]> i love them both to death

<k|cl0ck[9]> 4v4 because it allows me to strive from my individual flag running knowledge
<k|cl0ck[9]> and 5v5 because i love the teamwork aspect of ctf, and in 5v5 it is all teamwork

<baz>do you use rjump scripts, and do you think they should be banned?

<k|cl0ck[9]> sometimes i do sometimes i dont, the thing with rjscripts is that
<k|cl0ck[9]> theyre fine if theyre used by players who can usually make the jumps without them
<k|cl0ck[9]> but when newbs get ahold of them they just exploit them left and right, which is kinda lame
<k|cl0ck[9]> but im not particularly against it
<k|cl0ck[9]> i think that if they were removed
<k|cl0ck[9]> it would help ctf.

<baz>cloud9 have won many big tournaments, what do you do with the money that has been won?

<k|cl0ck[9]> bank it mostly
<k|cl0ck[9]> most of us kinda put it away to allows us to travel to other events more easily
<k|cl0ck[9]> being in america, its next to impossible to find a sponser
<k|cl0ck[9]> so we have to fund ourseleves to these events

<baz>wed be spending it on drink and women

<k|cl0ck[9]> haha

<baz>have you ever been to ireland?

<k|cl0ck[9]> no, id love to go sometime

<baz>
<baz>have you ever had a pint of the black stuff (guinness)?

<k|cl0ck[9]> oh yah
<k|cl0ck[9]>
<k|cl0ck[9]> guinness is my favorite hehe
<k|cl0ck[9]> i cant wait till im a little older and i can start traveling more

<baz>we have it for breakfast here, 15 pints a day rar (:

<k|cl0ck[9]> haha
<k|cl0ck[9]> amazing
<k|cl0ck[9]> i wish

<baz>the downside is that it turns your shite black

<k|cl0ck[9]> haha
<k|cl0ck[9]> does it really
<k|cl0ck[9]> thats funny :d

<baz>yeah, we have special toilets here, with reinforced porcelain dur to it.

<k|cl0ck[9]> haha
<k|cl0ck[9]> thats great man
<k|cl0ck[9]>

<baz>have you ever heard of any irish gamers?

<k|cl0ck[9]> hmm
<k|cl0ck[9]> gimme some big names
<k|cl0ck[9]> i probably have, yeah, just cant think right now

<baz>heh emmm koopa is suppose (quakeworld)
<baz>supposed best dm4 dueler in the world
<baz>then theres benji / vinnit / saik / giblet - all worthy
<baz>but i dont think they dont have a well known impact due to the poor irish telecoms
<baz>have you any plans for over the summer?

<k|cl0ck[9]> havent heard of them, sorry
<k|cl0ck[9]> plkans for the summer
<k|cl0ck[9]> going to be going to eswc to represent american in q3 1v1
<k|cl0ck[9]> then theres quakecon 2004 of course
<k|cl0ck[9]> probably a ggl event too
<k|cl0ck[9]> so i got about 3-4 events on my calender

<baz>hopefully some irish will be going to eswc, i was very impressed with the setup last year, with the live broadcasts, community coverage and gtv/shoutcasts.
<baz>hey, thanks for your time, and best of luck in future competitions, i’m sure us irish will be cheering you guys on (especially if you’re are playing some english team)

about rjump scripts, as cl0ck has bottled at least 1 rjump in every game, scripts take away the skill, but someone like benji can even use them
