i've been playing online games for a few years now, ever since that boring summer holidays day, that my sister came home from work with a few game demos burnt onto cd for me. there were 4 demos, baldurs gate, carmageddon, some space game with weird controls beginning with d and a game called quake3arena. i was amazed with the graphics in these games and the unrestricted maneouverability which they had as a major advantage over consoles. i didnt play any of them much as i was handicapped by the keyboard mouse system that pc gamers used, thus leading to a feeling of noobishness. my sister needed the internet in her room for freelance graphic work online so the old lad got a good 30 foot rj-11? cable to link it up. i opened q3 up anyway to bash a few 'i can win' bots on the sexeh q3dm17 but to my amazement it automatically dialed up to the internet(apple/mac option that auto dials when any tcp app is opened) so i goes into the menu and it says multiplayer huh? i saw all these weird names like 'blackbird sr server' 'house of rape' etc and new that they werent part of the game so i knew then that people were playing eachother online. i joined up and got analed but thoroughly enjoyed my free ass enlargement.

i played really casually for a couple of weeks until my sister told me how to do searches on engines like yahoo or altavista, so i searched for quake and ireland etc but didnt find much - mostly dead clan pages. i remember emailing any irish clans i found that played q2 or q3 telling them i was getting the full game soon and would like to join beforehand - lol? i found a nice looking site that belonged to mr. eric monney - clan se7ens site i believe and emailed him. mr. fuck sent me a friendly email back telling me what irc chan to join - irc wtf? eventually i found the mac equivalent ircle and got onto quake.ie to be greeted and made fun of by cunts like daa and mirv. mirv of course wanted to duel immediately to show me his dominance at the guessing game 56k q3 was. he pissed me off a lot and probably was a motivating factor at me wanting to get better. eventually i beat him even with a default q3 config - once i learned what cl_mouseaccel sensitivity and all those wonderul mouse commands did i pretty much beat him 70% of the time. there was another guy called illkillya in charge of wait for it 'irish rangers'! i loved the name.

may 2002 roll on an actual pc, a few months later roll on isdn and being able to play relatively competitively online. i was beginning to enjoy the game even more and what of now? part 2 coming soon
