i think room101 could be a seriously good lan, with loads of q3 (and qw). i know we’ve been saying this for the last few lans, but i really think this time we can have iq3cl 3. i’m probably not being very realistic, but it would be really great if we could get 8 clans there. some prizes would entice some ni q3 players to come down for the weekend… since you can rent computers, and there won’t be accommodation necessary, it should appeal to a lot of the ni players. casc from fh will be coming down from belfast. i’ve spoken to [ek.z3on] from omagh and he seemed interested. there are loads more up there and i reckon at least some of them would be up for it.

tdm

1. fh will be there for sure.

4. i’m sure mindphuck could get some team together for the event? we’ll call it hat.
   
5. maybe bio could scratch up four players for a lan on their doorstep.
   
6. at every lan there are always 4 ir players… shadow can identify them for us
   
7. z3on, alpha, threep, spliffy, or whoever shows up could enter the ni team.
   
8. maybe pr could field a team? :d sar/morphus/ye have a 3rd ni player, right?/ and then a merc

i know how unlikely it is that we could get 4 players from all those clans to have the time and money for this, there's no harm in aiming for it. realistically, this is what i predict:

• ir will have faulty network cards so they’ll all get pings of 800+ in game.
  
• bio will show up, but will merge with ni team, distance themselves from irish quake, and pull out of the tournament.
  
• pr will spend the weekend in a sudden death deadlock with hat on milktdm1.
  
• fh will end up going home after the first day when vin remembers that he forgot to milk the cows, and some mafia guys show up looking for lorc.
  
• nd will take default wins over everyone and win the league
  

but seriously, we could supplement the few clans we have with some random teams made up of whoever else is around, ala saturday at ul lan, shouldn’t be too difficult if there's 101 people there. i think its important that we have some sort of organized tdm competition so that we don’t waste a load of time messing about on ffa servers and playing 2v2’s and stuff.

1v1

we really need to have a 1v1 tournament. i saw at ul how quickly friday, saturday, and sunday can go by. i know there's no hope of running any competitions on a friday, but we should be able to have a q3 tdm league, 1v1 league, and leave plenty of time for qw and other games. we didn’t have a 1v1 league at trinlan 2001, and we should have really imo. a lot of the lan was wasted on ffa servers and stuff. personally, i don’t enjoy dueling as much as i enjoy tdm or ctf, but it’s the competitive aspect that makes it a lot of fun... so i won’t be bothered when i get knocked out in round 1 by a keyboarder cs player. a lot of people say there's no point in having a 1v1 league, since you know who’s going to win it (nd2fish) but there are several people capable of causing upsets, especially on a map like ztn, or when the magic brown jacket isn’t functioning correctly, so 1st place is not a certainty imo. anyway, there would be some savage competition for 2nd or 3rd place.


ctf

about 6 months ago, i would laugh at all the dedicated tdm players who turned ctf, when they insisted that i too could be converted. i was a tdm player. ctf is good fun, but i would always be a tdm player. or so i thought. at last i’ve realized that on the net, ctf is infinitely better than tdm, at least for us with the laggy isdn. but, lan tdm is a completely different game to net tdm, and it will be the 4v4’s that i’ll be looking forward to at room101 and not the ctf at all. but, some clan 5v5’s in ctf would be good fun also (although i’ve been told that the machinegun-rape can kill the game on lan, but lower mg damage would set that right.)

clanarena

i’d like to see an osp clanarena server up for the duration of the lan, dm6 only of course. there's no better way to get used to the low ping/new computer, and it also gives the likes of town a chance to show off what they’re good at with roundlimit 15 or something its much better for warming up and much more entertaining than the timelimit 0 ffa servers that are usually running.

anyway, i’m in dire need of some lan q3, and i’ve been playing a lot of qw lately so i won’t object to a lot of that at the lan… pity its over two months away knowing my luck, i won’t be able to go.
