| over the years, in my role of league admin or general stand up guy, i’ve had aim bots, wall hacks and all manners of cheating mechanisms given to me or i have seen them. i’ve had a look at most of them, tried a few of them and in general, i would know what’s out there in the cheating arena. people in the scene just go 'here, mp, there’s this new cheat, did you see it?', etc. when punkbuster came out, my interest in the area dwindled as i believed that punkbuster was doing a good job.
recently though, i heard of a new aimbot which was defeating punkbuster. i also had a suspicion of a player in the irish scene and wanted to see if he was cheating. i happened to be off work one day, while bored, i went on a mission to find this some bots and see what’s out there. within about 10 minutes of registering on a couple of web sites, i was downloading bots to beat the band. i tried a couple of different bots.. all of which were detectable by punkbuster. one of them though, when you ran it and connected to a server, it had this mad feature that showed who else was using the aimbot. aha, i think i'll try this out and check when the suspected player the next time i see that person.
so i did and it didn’t show up anything.. so, still not completely convinced, i tried another bot. i was amazed at the features and complexity of this bot. it did everything from wallhacks to auto shoot and aim. i was sickened at how 'good' it was. i actually gave it to another irish player and we had a bot duel on games2. all the time, pb was not detecting it. it was an eye opener to say the least..
where’s all this going ? well, one night a few weeks back, i popped onto the jolt league server to start coaching and found myself banned. i was ahh ffs. remembering that i had joined a jolt server a few days prior and it had moaned about some cvars which were left in my config from my bot testing. i fixed my config, reconnected to the server and didn’t think twice about it till i got banned from jolt.
on the night i got banned from jolt, i spoke to a guy called gigabit, who apparently owns the jolt servers. i tried to explain, but how does one 'explain i was messing with a bot'. i spoke to oxi. no joy. i talked to reaper, who used to be in charge of the jolt leagues and he said 'sorry man, one of the reasons why i left jolt was because of such silly banning crapola'.. i spoke to bigfoot.. no joy.. i spoke to everyone that i could speak to and they all pointed their fingers back to gigabit. i tried to speak to him again and try and put some perspective on the situation and he simply ignored me.
so, fine.. my team mates needed me to coach. i jumped on the server with a other cd key, (which i may add was a legitimate, legal other q3 copy) and gigabit booted and banned me from the server again... saying 'once a cheater always a cheater.. and that no matter how many cd keys i used he would ban me. now, to add to this, i couldn’t even try and discuss it with him as he blankly refused to reply to me on irc. for the love of god!
i let it go for two reasons : i didn’t want to get my q3 clan banned from the league for associating with a known 'cheater' and secondly, i would only end up loosing the rag completely and utterly... and that’s not good for the heart at all 
i recently found out that zero sent mails to bigfoot and gigabit, explaining the situation on my behalf. i was impressed with zeros way of explaining the truth to biffy and gigabit so much so, it pretty much brought a tear to my eyes about how he cared what i had personally done for irish quake.. and after reading the mails i am absolutely amazed to find that some lad cannot/will not and point blankly refuses to even listen to reason.
totally pissed off with this situation, i resigned from n8z my q3 clan and refuse to play q3 anymore. i am 34 fucking years old, i don’t really get alot of gaming time in, but when i do, i would like to play some quake fucking three without some fucking idiot giving me crap about me cheating.
get this into your head in the most simplistic way i can say it 'i do not fucking cheat!!'
