if you have read my previous post about the doom 3 hardware requirements and the edited part on the "official video card benchmarks" by [h]ard|ocp, you'll know that ati doen't perform as well as nvidia on the doom 3 benchmarks.

the inquirer was the first one to point their finger on the "bad boys" carmack and nvidia.

well, as you surely know, doom 3 runs on opengl, which is a multi-platform graphic api. and ati has been caught with their trousers down to favour the microsoft-proprietary graphic api directx only and thus, resulting in poor benchmarks for doom 3.

but it looks like ati will work hard on it to provide good results in doom 3 :

on another note, it seems that doom 3 is for win2k and winxp only (no win98 but the mac and linux versions will follow soon - thx to opengl).

I'd have to agree with baz to some degree. I imagine d3 will be very atmospheric etc. and the multiplayer could be fun as a result of that... but as far as being a competitive platform, I dunno. It could be, but i don't see what the d3 engine can bring to good competitive gameplay that the q1/q2/q3 engines can't
im still looking forward to it tho
