amazon.com is now taking pre-orders for the long-awaited “quake 4,” promising a release date of oct. 31.



game manufacturer id software previously said quake 4 should be in stores before christmas, but has not confirmed a specific release date. last year, release dates posted on amazon for doom 3 (also published and developed by id software) were correct.



amazon says quake 4 will have an "arena-style multiplayer that allows players to play as strogg or marine." whether this means that those will function as player classes or just models is unknown.



wendy zaas, a spokesperson for id software, would not confirm that amazon's

information is correct. "there is no official release date. it's when it's done."

not too sure about classes, I've never been able to manage much more than +forward +fire, and when it comes to setting up engineer's guns and stuff I cba. Doubt it would be complicated like that in q4 though, more true to the quake series of keeping things simple. Am looking forward to it anyway, hope they don't slow the game down too much.

Are there any predictions as to what kind of machine spec would be required?

havent they been slowing it down all along.

QW > Q2 > Q3

Q3 CPMA > Q2 I think though...and sure no-one knew what bunnying was when qw was released, so they havent been intentionally slowing it down anyway, if anything they've been trying to speed it up, but the 9-years-practicing-nightly players just keep getting faster!

q2 movement wise is alright but the weapons.....

and no one knew what bunnying was when qw was released cos it wasnt possible. It was a kteams bug which allowed it i think and that wasnt out right away when qw was released and also you need to use 30 or 50fps to do it for ages. People werent gonna give up 22fps just so they could bunnyjump just to get raped by lg.

Dunno if thats right tho cos i was only a newb when bunnying first came in and wouldnt have been able to do it anyway.
