| Ive spent about 5 hours online playing quake 4 now, and I dont get it. I dont understand why it plays so f*cking shit. Ive got a 2gb ddr2 ram, a 6800 ultra and an athlon64/3800+ and it still runs like shite. Yeah, I can get ~63fps on high quality, but its jerky as shit, with texture shearing, even with vsync on. The textures look the same quality as q3s max, and I can get 200fps+ with that. I mean, what the fuck am I getting for my money? ID/Raven must be colluding with Nvidia/Ati or some shit.
The goddamn console wont expand commands with tab keys. theres no native cl_mouseAccel support which really pisses me off since I use a relatively high accel of 1.4. The rockets go slower than q3, but with a higher rate of fire slightly. Boring. The railgun is like some crazy cell-shaded spaz version of the q3 model that fills the screen with swirls and shite. I cant find how to stick on simple items since every weapon looks the same to me. When I run over a weapon, the text is too small to pick up easy with the corner of your eye to see what it is. The netcode is shit -- often the prediction code sends me rocking back and forward (remember the q3 serverfuck code that would shake everyone on the level? its like that). Stuck with one crosshair. Ive had people spawn inside me, but not frag me. The ramp jumping seems fairly useless. Crouch sliding is somewhat fun, but still a bit stupid. The maps are utterly gay, so far.
And thats just for starters. Im sure Ill have more complaints tomorrow. I think Im probably going to put quake 4 back on the shelf until at least two iterations of patches have been released.
Quake 3 rules. Still.

* spec tells me that tab-completion _does_ work for him, although not for me which only throws fuel on the fire tbh
* overlord tells me there are multiple cursor choices -- oh dear, Im sounding like an old fart complaining about the youth of today
