| with the up and coming events of both the barrysworld european championships and the
savage euro capture the flag league, there's alot of goings on with trials for both the
tdm and ctf teams. whilst m1ke (and a-another?) will be running the ctf team, zero and
bunny run the tdm squad. while the tdm squad has been around for sometime and organisation
of trials, practice, meetings, travel, more travel has taken place over the years it is
common knowledge that the people behind the team have their shit sorted and have done so
from past experiences.
this is a new era for irish ctf as there never has been an active team(ctf).ie. the
panel picked so far is totally different to the tdm team, apart from one or two players.
i have no idea how this panel was picked or what criteria (or even experience of
ctf?) the people picking the players had. anyway, that's neither here or there and i
thrust whoever chose the team, has done so with practical, logical thinking and did so in
the best interest of everyone. i will not make any judgements on anyone's
decision thus far as its just after christmas and people are just getting back into quake
and getting over the trauma of the 1.27 patch (which you will probably agree it suxx
camels ass).
where my thoughts come into this - the ctf management lads best kick into gear as it is
only a month away when the first games begin. i don't need to say much more on that,
or do i?. its exciting times for everyone and we all want to see both the tdm
and the ctf squads doing well, but that can only come with practice which both teams are
in serious need of. one thing that concerns me is that there is some people on both
teams, myself included. it is in my opinion that this cannot be good for either team
as it looses focus on the different styles of game play. the team play for each game
is entirely different. we all know this.
playing for both sides could lead to general headaches in training fixtures, actual
games fixtures, supply of dedicated players and more importantly, the loss of focus on one
particular flavour of quake. what if fixtures for both games are on the same
day. etc? after playing hours of ctf at a time and then suddenly switching to
tdm, i personally find that its an awkward adjustment to make. sure after a couple
of games i'm back on form, but the point being, why change the focus? if the players
have to be dedicated enough to be on team.ie whether it be ctf and tdm then shouldn't they
be as dedicated to the chosen game type so they can be the best of the best?
i would imagine the simplest solution for this is that the players on both squads chose
their sport and stick to it. we can always be on the training squad if there short
of players but to be on the main line-up.. we'll you've just read what i feel about it.
i noticed that m1ke is also up for the both squads, but is running the ctf squad.
surely that alone cannot be good for either team since it is difficult enough to
run a team, let alone play for two teams. btw, this is not a poke at m1ke, its just
an example.
over the last two months, i have switched over from tdm to ctf.
i've been playing ctf since its original concept in qw so i am extreamly
experienced in how it can be/should be played and most people have heard me rant on and
promote ctf on quake.ie for god knows. so for me, i'm officially going to drop out
of the deathmatch squad and focus on the ctf squad. if the tdm team needs a player
or two to practice against now and then, i'd be up for it. in the mean-time, i think we
should all be practicing and getting of our butts and getting our shit together. im
looking forward to it already.
