These tournaments envelop a diverse array of games, such as CS 1.6, Q4 TDM and 1on1, WC3 2on2, WC3FT 1on1, CoD2, BF2, SWBF. For more information about all that, you can view the GGL http://ggl.com/news.php?NewsId=1349 news post. In this news post, however, I will focus on the AmeriCup premiere of the QuakeWorld duel tournament, which has been slated a purse of $1,000. The top three finishers will earn some cash, and the rest will participate in the inauguration of something that has the potential to grow nation-wide. The QW AmeriCup season will last 8 weeks -- one practice week and seven group-game weeks (thats one game per week). Groups contain 8 players, and the cream of the crop will go on to the playoffs. So, how do you get in on the action? Your first step will be to make a ggl.com account if you do not already have one. Simply go to http://ggl.com/join.php and fill in all the fields. (If you have any problems, contact DonKing on IRC (qn/gs/etg) or via e-mail/msn: donking at ggl dot com) Then, http://ggl.com/league_signup.php?CompetitionId=134 register for the tournament itself -- you can leave "justification" blank. If you are based outside the North Americas, I believe you can still register. However, because this is "AmeriCup", you will not have the option of playing on servers outside of North America. When Sam was playing, he would beat any American on American servers on dm4... def could beat him on dm6 but that was about it. Players like Fiend, who are on west coast, would be no problem as I understand it because they will be forced to play on an East coast server, and it would be like ping 70 vs 120. So unless there has been a big change in American qw in the past 2 years, then the only bananaskin for a top European qwer who is as good as Sam was at 1v1 on high ping (does such a player exist?) would be the low ping East Coast def, since youll be playing 120ping vs 20.   edited by Illkillya on 09/11/2005 20:28

I didnt check the website, but I assume its dm4, dm6, dm2? Or did they throw aerowalk/ztn or any others? BTW, if you see the clanbase q4 eurocup.. its ridiculous - theres something like $30,000 going for the winner of a match between the Eurocup winners and the Americup winners in both 1v1 and q4... but that match is played ONLINE. aaaaaaaahahahahaha

It has punkbuster built in, but thats never stopped the good aimbot makers in the past... come to think of it thats a very good point mixu, given that the final is played online. Usually these big tournaments are on LAN so hackers wouldnt get away with it, but online, and on 100 ping... very easily done Id say. At the very least, you could have all 4 players using that opengl see through walls dll that punkbuster doesnt pick up.

One thing though, are ye sure its 1000 to the winner? Id have thought itd be like 500 to the winner, 200 to second etc etc?
