Ive went back to Call of Duty 2 because of this. If any of you lads fancy some call of duty 2 our website is http://www.1st-ib.net. Give the game a try, i think youll enjoy it. Alot of quake3 players went over to it. Our own Anarki plays it semi pro. Would be nice to see a few clans from ireland getting involved. Out server and Teamspeak are posted on the website.

I have been playing a bit of CoD2 and am considering getting a team together for it, my problem is the one i raised on the 1st-IB forum, some servers bump my rate up to 25000 and dont let me change back to 5000 and its very frustrating.

But from viewing the posts above its sounds like people dont really mind what game they play as long as there a bit of activity in the scene. Killy has mentioned COD2 MindPhuck has mentioned BF2 or ET. Has anyone thought about trying to res Quakeworld in Ireland again?? I know id love to play it again. I was only a newbie when i first played it but i found it the most fun game i ever played. Just a thought.

There was a qw resurrection about 8 months back I think it was, lasted about 1 month, we had all Irish 4v4s and a good few pickups. Id be up for a few games again i guess.

Problem is, in the current state there wont be a bit of activity in the scene if were all playing different games. Rev Hellfire made some very good points replying to my column, one of them was about the need to re-establish IGN or something similar. If we could unite the Quake community, and the Unreal.ie community, and the CoDders, Darkside/Gamecon community, and whatever other stragglers there are in other games under the umbrella of a greater community, then at least if we did move onto other games, were not leaving the community as such. Darkkeep.com is in some way a hub for the different games, as the servers are there, the forums (although theyre quiet) are there, just there is no link with the bigger communities - until I went looking for WoW patches I never knew the site existed. I dont know exactly what needs to be done, but when I went for my first game of CoD2 recently I saw that there is definitely something that needs to be done. Although there is a relatively active COD board on boards.ie, and a huge Irish clan and possibly others - I found it very difficult to find any Irish CoD players (jedi why dont you use irc anymore?), only Anarchy and BK, with dragula the only guy idling in #1st-IB.... as far as I know there is no channel for CoD in Ireland, I found a number of Irish players on public servers, including one from Cork, who dont use IRC. I know there have been attempts (some successful and some not) to unite the Irish gaming community like this, but I think that it is needed now more than ever due to the waning Irish online gaming scene.

We have 17 Irish Call of Duty 2 Players 10 BFV players. Theres at least another 40 irish COD 2 players in the scene too which play with other clans and for fun. Example: Crow plays for Pro clan Discipline Anarki plays for Pro clan TradeMark. Theres also an Irish eurocup team being organised for COD 2. The COD 2 community is huge with almost 800 clans in clanbase. Clanbase teams are quiet small 5v5 which should suit quake clans numbers. Never a problem finding an active server. Plenty of MODs. Search and Destroy, Team DM, DM, Headquaters (Capture and hold) and even CTF which is class for COD2. Im looking into the problem your having at the moment with joining our server killy. Ill let you know what i find out. That baby is not even 2 months yet and it has already been both a Second Coming AND a Nemesis for any Quake player. Could I get comments on the game from hardcore QW players? I would be surprised to see how similar the movements are as I dont have a clue myself, I just feel like there is something more than just plain q3 movements as you get much more air control in q4. It starts to get obvious with maps like Galang and Aerowalk. Those maps just feel right in q4. Also CTF is very fast and fun. Here again, more maps are needed tho but the existing ones arent bad. And there is the good-looking Quake 4 Fortress (www.q4f.net) coming up as well as Rocket Arena 4.

The team at the moment is me, vinnit, killy, BK, Spoonman, Rapp, Giblet, Gideon and another one of vins mates. If any of you want to amuse yourself with it feel free to stop by either #crock or #unreal.ie unreal.ie have 6 UT servers now, all very good machines. There are about 30 active irish players at the moment so the scene is really going through a revival mainly thanks to unreal.ie setting up all those servers etc.

Spectator: its a really fast game Ive been playing it for the last two and half years and I wont even look at another fps game. Yeah, maybe Im a fucking idiot but I dont care - the game is a legend in my eyes. From experience, its very very hard to get into because of its difficulty and learning curve. Only the heavily dedicated ones stick around. Its not something you will pick up and own in, in a small ammount of time. This might not be the case for everyone though. Theyre are irish servers and all, thanks to Rev/Ronin. We have a few games in #qw.ie nightly although its mostly me and quetzal playing. Stev, nosmo and paladin do give it a shot too, Vinnit also but only for 2on2s. Killy and saik were in heat a few weeks ago with it but they disappeared back into the quake3 channels (fags). Spliffy and swoop play alot aswell and are clanned by a finnish clan (super fags). You dont need a great connection either to play it. ISDN is suitable I think and pings do be good to most european servers. Im on eircom adsl 2048/128 and I ping 26 to irish and uk servers now. 38 to nl etc etc etc.. (/GLOAT) I can provide you a few links to the clients/demos if you want, the game can be downloaded and installed easily. ID arent too gay about it either. BTW, a MONSTER Quakeworld report/info/column/waffle update shall be coming soon from I!

Theres just no reason to make the move from quake 3 for those who play it and for those who didnt like q3 its to similar. Anyway onto the second topic Illkillya made about a community. Id be of the opinion that were just a bit to split out all over the place, we need a spot where all the information and contacts are in one spot. Also on the serverside games-wise they may not be representive of what the community require or what at this stage. So on that topic Im going to pass the selection of the servers to be run over to you guys. The only server which cannt be touched is the pirates server on games2 which has a pretty active community of its own. Well have an open discussion on what games should be running and where. Spec-wise this is what youve to work with: games1 - dual 900mhz intel games2 - dual 2g amd games3 - 1g intel games4 - 3g amd games5 - 700(?) intel theyre long in the tooth I agree, but hopefully sometime in the new year Ill have funds to upgrade one more. You could get 1 member from each respective community as the ops/admins. Irc channel could contain irc channels of the active irish communities #unreal.ie #quake.ie #qw.ie #cod.ie #cs.ie #bf.ie Would be a handy place to go if you wanted to try out another game. Then if within each community channel the active irish clans were listed. ie. #quake.ies topic would have ACTIVE IRISH CLANS: #n8z #FH etc...   edited by Dardoz on 06/12/2005 14:05
