I gave up the cancer sticks on New Years Day and I needed to keep myself busy so I downloaded a few tutorials on Doom3/Quake4 map making, unfortunatly due to various attempts of man slaughter I decided to go back on the ciggies after about six days.

I still managed to work away on the level

Last Refuge
1v1 map

2 Yellow Armours, no Railgun and no Nailgun.
Its my first attempt at 3d modeling and I know there are a few textures that need trimming or cutting.

The map design is based on an old underwater Strogg base with an escape pod dominating the center. All areas have a distinct feel and look to them. In full detail it actually looks quite nice while still being faithful to r_lightleveldetail and the map holds well with everything turned down

Im very happy to be the first I think your map is not bad just about the build. Its a kinda small and open map. But instead of writing an essay Ill just make a list of pros and cons

pros:
+ small and fast map
+ nice structure ; easy to learn (even with textures missing)
+ a really big hotspot in the middle fighting the mh (very nice done)

cons:
- cube form (would prefer a round build like "railed"; would make it much better)
- not the best item placement:
.Route from YA -> MH -> YA take you ~6 sec -> Proposal: place them diagonal in the corners or just make it harder to get both
.Adding RL to the Route brings it up to about 9 sec (to easy to control)
- missing rail as a RL counter (would place it mirrored point to rl above the jumppad)
.Otherwise RL is to strong because of the walls nearly everwhere)
- the small platforms for the grenlauncher and the 2nd YA (why did you add them?)

thats my oppinion after jumping arround for about 10 minutes

Hope to see a second version soon

Thanks for the info

I know the map can seem a little cubish... Im hoping to get better at q4radient to get it looking nicer...

The Item placement has been changed 3 times before myself and windowlicker agreed on removing the Rail due to the map turning into a duckhunt. It was a little too open for that so instead of changing the whole structure we decided on 2 RL both being in somewhat confined areas. Well be duelling more to get see if it works

The small platforms for the hyperblaster and the YA are there so that people cant take them as quickly. the small gaurd at the hyperblaster was a good gaurd against spamming RL.

I didnt know if the "escape pod" in the middle wored but I hope to detail the lvl to highlight it more, as well as curving the level up

a 2nd rl would also do well. the duckhunt thing should be right. looked a 2nd time and it would be like railyrad ... youre right, mate.

maybe a seperated room for the 2nd ya would do much better. when you start your route from the platform you wont lose any time. If you have to go arround a corner or something like that it might be more efficient

dont let those niquitin wankers put u off with their "u cant quit unless u use our product" attitude.

not tried the map yet but just to give some support for quitting the fags, ive tried a few/many times now and cant seem to kick it. Tried patches, will power (not enough) and taking up exercise. Read a few tips online and even got a book bought to me from a mate that helped him quit. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0140277633/202-6530925-8523839

Im not a believer in reading something that will magically make me quit, but i havent read it yet either

Seriously though, unless youre a crack hoe, cold turkey is the only way. Relying on a third party, e.g. the gum, to get you out of your habits is a bad route. It starts within mate! Im ciggy free after 6 years; I smoked for 12.
