dest Owen McNally posts : 109 Lo, all Right my college programming project is coming up and we have an option to take on a project of our own choosing. Being the quake nard that i am, the first thing that comes into my head is quake1 mod. The problem is that i have to submitt a project outline by this monday detailing what exactly i plan to achieve with the quake mod. We have about 3 months with 4 people in our group so ANY ideas for what we could do in this timespace would be much appreciated. The scale of the other projects is reasonably complex (one is a remake of Paradroid, another is a AdHoc network config tool) so feel free to throw out whatever comes into your head. Also if anyone with experience of QuakeC could get in contact with me so i could pick yer brains it would be much appreciated So cmon, ideas ideas ideas! Cheers.

03/02/2006 16:20 #3 OverLord Dave Woodlock clan : n8z posts : 191 administrator well dont have any ideas for a quake mod. but something i always thought would be a good idea if its possible (dunno if it is) is some kind of software that changes the picture on the monitor so that your eyes can relax and focus at a distance to see the image on the screen. Eye strain is a big problem with regard to looking at monitors because the eye has to bend the lens so much to focus on such a near object. If the image on the monitor could be rearranged so that by relaxing the lens of the eye (or focusing at a distance behind the monitor as it were) the image would be in focus. Worth millions of ze dollars!

Not exactly complex, but maybe you could spice it up somehow?

04/02/2006 14:22 #6 dest Owen McNally posts : 109 i actually tryed makin such a mod a few years ago. assault course type map with moving platforms and targets to shoot etc. unfortunately ive lost it since :( my concern with this type of thing is that its not as much programming as it is mapping + a timer. we might end up just trying to write a bot or something.

Those ideas are good, I like the Ad-hoc network config tool too - Im doing something similar atm for my FYP. The key is to go with something youll enjoy doing, so that youre eager to spend time working on it.

Could be cool alright, if a little too similar to whats already been done. (btw, if anyone hasnt see it, have a watch of slide challenge 2004 - http://www.own-age.com/vids/video.aspx?id=3918) Ideas for a mod? A soccer mod idea is good alright. Easy map to make, some bunnyhopping + tackling + kicking madness. Again the main problem is something similars already been done with phils basketball mod ( http://qexpo.quakedev.com/booths.php?tag=basketquake ). But if you think its different enough, sure. Of course, this post is retarded as the deadline has already past, but if youre writing something to do with qw, Ill be around (hopefully) semi-actively to test if you want..
