| Hey all,
Some of you may know me as a UT player.
I bought Quake 4 sorta recently and wouldnt mind dabbling in it online. Problem is I tend to be very n00bish when it comes to computers and how to use them, this leads on to not knowing how to do things in games. With UT i have it set up all pro like with the various binds, forcedskins etc. But with Quake I dont even know where to start. Vinnit and Melachi (thanks lads) helped me set up Quake 4 when I first got it, but now that im updating to Q4max 0.72 I have no clue as to how to install it. Okay, I admit, I cant remember what Vinnit told me and that is my fault, but it got me thinking... without someone I know who plays Quake I wouldnt have had a clue as to anything, i.e. getting on the games4.iol.ie server, setting up my config in Quake 4 base, what maps I need to get on the server in the first place, how to set up Q4Max (even though ive forgotten ), using the quake4.bat file and how to get 63 fps.
Not too long ago aswell I think I saw a thread here about what, if anything, people would like to see added to the site. I suggest some sort of guide for new Quake players to use. I mean, for alot of people that use this site it would have no use, but for anyone else that wants to start playing Quake 4 it would be a massive help. At LANs aswell it could be a bonus as it could stop alot of wasted time getting peoples Quake up to date as they could do it themselves. Quake 4 so far to me seems quite the pig to get working and play on good online servers.
It would probably take a while to write and get right but in my opinion would definately be worth it to Irish Quake. On www.unreal.ie we have a tutorials section which even now, after a solid year playing, I refer to. At LANs aswell Im constantly telling people to go there to learn how to set things up.
What do you people think?
