xsreality asked 20 gamers (not all in ec3) about their thoughts on the new clanbase eurocup 3 ruling which was that teams must use the default network settings in quake 3, namely snaps 20, cl_maxpackets 30, cl_timenudge 0, unless a compromise can be agreed by both teams. you can find it here along with some other reports.

who do you think suffers more, isdn or the leased line players?

i think myself that the isdn people loose out more, but making the leased line players suffer becuase of other peoples problems, also doesnt seem fair.

Speaking from a player who has played both isdn and lan. Players with low maxpackets can get flooded by players who have say, maxpackets 100. It makes a huge difference anyone who says different, imho, hasn't played on isdn connects long enough to know any better.

From a 100 maxpackets pov. If your used to playing on 100 MP and dropping to say 30, its a world of a difference. It would effect a player whos used to 100mp from aim to movement.

I think the ruling could have been fairer in that it could have a limit of 50 max packets thus giving a slight advantage to broadband users over isdn users but not enough to flood them out of it.

It seems that the isdn players have got the better deal in that the default settings are closer to an isdn players settings than a broadband users settings.

Thats abit harsh tbh

maxpackets set over 100 does flood ISDN players, but most leauges have like a max 70 packet ruling and max rate under 10,000 ect.

Default settings like everything in q3 are a bit shit.

30's a bit shite though, I'd say a lot of ISDN users would use maxpackets 50 at least; 50 or 60 would be more fair.

Playing on single ISDN in a league game is very optimistic anyway. Most div 1 UK players pay the extra for 128k 0845 dialup, since you get flooded much less often. Plus higher maxpackets=much smoother gaming.
