as most people know i have kind of been out of things over the last while, since loosing the ul uber connect. apart from the very odd kick around the number of serious games can quite literally be counted on one hand. not having a machine at home capable of running q3 to any degree, i have had to resort to playing from work in between serving customers, however the lack of bandwidth and the rather unreliable state of the machines has made trying to play quake 3 an entirely frustrating affair. i have had to quit the team.ie panel (hopefully only temporarily) and have decided to drop from the hat-a team, for some leagues at least, so that i can coach and get in some games with hat-b until i can raise the standard of my game back to a decent level.
just a few weeks ago i decided to load up quakeworld for nostalgias sake and was astonished. after playing about a dozen duels against drex i found myself really getting into it, and enjoying quake again for the first time in months. it really left me wondering why i bothered playing quake3. duels were annoying, and i could never really take them seriously (maybe because i sucked at them), ctf was ok but could never compete with memories of the months spent on indigosrv2 in the vanilla quake days before quakewrld became popular. the only thing i enjoyed about quake3 were the tdms, but there are reletively few of them going on atm. i found to my surprise that all the gt and 7o9 lads were still playing regularly, occupying the vishnu war server most nights of the week. it was a great feeling to be able to rip around the levels at enormous speeds, with huge amounts of air movement. it made me decide to get the hat lads playing qw, and as far as i know we have 4 players for a team, though we have yet to practice any games. anyway, time to kick mp up and down dm4!
