most people who play q3 actually dont get the same buzz out of its previous titles. some pasionately hate it. a fair number of q3 players moved over to counter-strike. i play both. theres something lacking in q3 that alot of us just dont like. for me, its the lack of quakeworld skillz and team play has made me just get bored with it.

doom3 will be the next game. period. thats my predictions and already i have begun work on www.doom3.ie and i feel with the way they are designing it, it will be excellent. by the rate things are going, there will be a huge following and possibly an even bigger community then there was for the q1, q2, q3 people. i'll be watching this one.

Q3 on default settings looks the biz,
but it aint the way we play it,

I certainly hope ID include the option of lower polygon models, the one's they showed in the geeforce 3 demo seemed intence to say the least.

Also notice they never mentioned what the spec PC it was running on was.

Sillicon Graphics Workstation by any chance?...

When designing Quake3 they spent Waaaaaaay to much time on graphics rather then Important shit like the bleed'in net code, and game testing.

Tbh it looks like they've got their proiritys wrong all over again

When Quake2 first came out it absolutely sucked. By the 3.17 patch it was great ! Quake2 really reeked before it was patched and then it was just so much fun.

I think it'll be the same with a game that isn't polished for multiplayer out of box. Look at all the mods and maps etc.. that the community contribute to make ID games better. Doom3 will not be accepted off the shelf, it'll be accepted a few months down the road by newer players to the scene and all the old ones will have pussied back to Quakeworld where they belong.

I know i'll play both and then choose which to stick to like I did with Quake2/3.

Well you can hardly say that Counterstrike was polished when it became popular.

You can hardly say its polished now.

In fact most of thats crap. You dont need a patch to know if a game is good. People knew Quake1 was a winner the day the demo came out. Its only in recent times games that have become frequently patched anyway.
Now back in the days of Doom1 and Doom2.... :-)

Now that was gaming my friend. The adreneline rush, the actual fear! I was scared to play the game! The atmosphere of it was awesome. The gruesome sounds from behind you, the distant screams of marines.

:-)

Actually, I dont think Doom3 could ever be as legendary as its predecessors. The games market is too fast these days. The next real legend, like Doom1&2 and sort of quake1/qw might just be a VR game.

Still tho, It would be nice if doom3 is a class act. Something to move past Q3, since by the time i have a pc to play that it will be outdated :-)

think the game will suck realy, but everyone will go to it liek they did quake3.

more people, more specs, more money.

Did JC not say quite clearly that multiplayer was the last thing on his mind with doom3, and that the single player game was going to get priority?

If you will remember quake1's beginnings, it was never really intended for multiplayer, at least of the scale that finally reached.

We were all very hopeful with the release of quake 3, and most of us were disapointed. If I am going to play it when it comes out, its going to have to prove itself first, Im not wasting my time with another sub par game from ID rushed out before Xmas.
