MindPhuck Eric Mooney Im drinking stuff donated to quake.ie clan : n8z posts : 1267 site owner irish teams and players competiting in the uk leagues will now find it even more difficult to find a decent ping with the news of buy and sell closing in feburary of next year. here's a snippit of the press release : the irish isp, buyandsell.net, has been forced to close after majority shareholder scoot.com pulled out because it was no longer 'part of their corporate strategy'. buyandsell.net said that it had made arrangements with the isp utvinternet to ensure that customers continue to have internet access and e-mail use. according to buyandsell.net's web site, customers can transfer to utv internet by logging on to this web page. this is yet another blow to the irish isp market.

Over the summer ocean was awful, spiking every few seconds, but since they've fixed that problem it has been the best all-round ISP.

24/11/2001 #6 koopa a posts : 88 indigo/eircom would give 40-50 ping (more solid than buy&sell) to barrysworld, if they werent routed through holland for about 3 weeks, i was getting fairly solid 42 ping to barrysworld in qw on indigo, much more stable than the ping using buy&sell, then barrysworld moved, and once again eircom/indigo were routed through holland for some reason.. it seems to be a barrysworld problem, like pinging www.blueyonder.co.uk, and www.demon.co.uk are both only 40-45 ms using eircom, on average

24/11/2001 #7 M1ke Michael Breen posts : 288 yeah buyandsell routes well, it's only good at 128k IOL Gold seems to be the best now (but can't go 128k, and Q3 being a bandwidth hog means 64k aint that useless in big games). Ocean - i'll give it another try, last time I tried it, it was muck.

24/11/2001 #9 M1ke Michael Breen posts : 288 I was just on ocean 128k there, 13 hops to the server, nasty fkin spikes ... good pings but seriously nasty spikes makes it almost impossible to play a decent game on a loaded server. I'd say it would be ok for duelling. I think the root of the problem is Barrysworld itself, Jolt and Savage servers are all really really good with all the irish isps iol, eircom, indigo, ocean, ..... it's just Barrysworld that routes badly from Ireland, nowhere else though.
