well, my team ( hat-b ) just got finished playing a wireplay dml game.

it didn't go at all well, but then things rarely seem to in the wpdml, but this was exceptional..

of the 6 members of the opposition connected to the server, 5 were using 10k rate and 100max packets. this lead to lag that was so unplayably bad, even our isdn and cable players were being flooded to a standstill. sure, we were outplayed, but how hard is it to beat a team of semi-mobile statues.

being a modem player currently, i've tried to keep an open mind about the q3 net settings and the lag it may or may not cause, but after recent incidents i've been reading the message boards in various places, seen the research being done into the lag caused by various connection types and settings, and done some testing myself.

one of the most surprising things i found was that anyone using plasma near me doubled the amount of net traffic i received, and this was only made worse by multiple people using plasmagun nearby.

i haven't been able to see any useful testing into the direct effect rate and maxpax settings have on other players, only the subjective stuff i've noticed.

it's especially noticeable on public servers, it only takes a couple of 100maxpax players to join and i'm lagging bad enough that i have to dodge my own rockets.

well, things need lots of proper testing before a clearer picture is available, and hopefully the q3 community will come through with some hard facts so we can eliminate this issue once and for all, and get back to proper games of player vs player, not player vs other player's ping.
