note : players spawn with 125 health, when you hit someone in q3 you will always hear
the hitscan noise - a low beep.





gauntlet - one of the two weapons you start with, doesn't require ammo. its
surprisingly powerful, with roughly 50 damage per hit. it is a "point blank"
weapon, in that you have to physically hit the person with it. this might seem useless but
it's not. it can be used at narrow corridors, tops of jump pads, etc. where you catch
people by surprise. even if a rocket-launcher guy is chasing you, you can often switch to
this and turn back against him. very useful.

machinegun - this is the weapon you spawn with, typically with 50 bullets (in
teamplay games you start off with less). its instant hit and is simply a matter of keeping
the crosshair on your enemy at all times.

shotgun - another instant hit gun, it fires 10 pellets. the spread of the
pellets increases with distance. a good shot up close is as powerful as a slug from the
railgun.

grenade launcher - firing about once a second each grenade can do plenty of
damage to a player or players. slow, inaccurate, rarely used, you can however, with a lot
of skill, learn to hit players directly with this weapon, but as the guns go this is the
worst of the lot.

rocket launcher - one of the main weapons available, very desirable in any
situation - wars, duels, ffa's. direct hits do loads of damage, but the best way to use
this weapon is to fire it at another player's feet thus forcing that player to take
'splash damage' (the explosion) this can be anywhere from 1 to full damage depending on
how close the impact was. in order to hit well, you need good prediction shots, these will
come with experience, fire straight at your opponent and he can dodge easily.

shaft/lightning gun - another deadly weapon. the shaft is a instant hit weapon
but it has limited range. its simply a case of keeping the crosshair directly on your
opponent, this is a lot harder than it looks. having a low sensitivity will help.

railgun - this weapon does exactly 100 damage per hit, no more, no less, and
there is no splash damage. it has a slow reload time, but it is instant hit and has
unlimited range making it the best long range weapon in the game. probably one of the most
difficult weapons to become skilled with, there are a few different ways of aiming this
gun.

-point your crosshair just ahead of the enemy, when he crosses that point, shoot.

-use the left and right strafe keys to make minor adjustments in aim.

-whip the mouse past your opponent, firing when the crosshair just passes him.

ammo - slugs

plasma gun - very powerful short and medium range weapon, but becomes
increasingly harder to aim. try and fire streams of plasma ahead of your enemy, while you
are firing, try and close the gap between you and him. remember, the closer you are with
plasma, the more lethal it is.

bfg - monster of a weapon, kills people effortlessly
by the dozen. rarely present on any war maps, it's a real ffa weapon, but even then it's
not on many levels that are normally played. if you get this gun, you will do horrible
amounts of damage.
