| just back from amsterdam and trying to catch up on news and the likes. on
my arrival at the event centre in
href="http://www.planetlan.de/show_photos.html?detail=1&number=257&pic_number=3725"
target="_blank">pandahallen, amsterdam, i found the
href="http://www.planetlan.de/show_photos.html?detail=1&number=257&pic_number=3734"
target="_blank">network in a bit of a shit state. with about 4-5 guys running
round trying to get it running. i was introduced to the network team by
href="http://www.planetlan.de/show_photos.html?detail=1&number=257&pic_number=3758"
target="_blank">griff and talked to the guys about the issues they were having,
putting forward what i believed were the problems. one, being the switch they were
using and secondly, the pc where the symantec ghost images were being made may have a
problem with their network card. some 6 hours passed by while the irish paddy was
quietly ignored in the corner about his suggestions. i finally lost the head and
informed griff that this network was not going anywhere unless people listened, which
griff promptly put me in charge and they finally listened and the problems got
resolved. low and behold, it was the two issues which i said so in the first place!!
i cant take the credit for it though, as that would be unfair to
href="http://www.planetlan.de/show_photos.html?detail=1&number=257&pic_number=3735"
target="_blank">elchi, entity,
href="http://www.planetlan.de/show_photos.html?detail=1&number=257&pic_number=3747"
target="_blank">shock, sonic and the other guys who helped out. but ffs, it was
damn frustrating being a third wheel and not understanding dutch! btw, a huge thanks
to all the guys who helped get the place running - sonic, fanj, van, sico,
guinessman (who was still stoned from the night before, he didn't have a
clue what he was doing)
it was great to finally meet a few people i have talked to or saw demos/games of on-line,
to name a few - fatality, lakerman and
href="http://www.planetlan.de/show_photos.html?detail=1&number=257&pic_number=3737"
target="_blank">killcreek. i made a few new friends and had a great time at the
actual event. on the friday evening, when it came to bed-time, i realised i had
no-where to stay and was in dire need of a shower and change of clothes. shock
kindly gave up his bed in a nearby hotel as he wanted to hang out in the event centre.
thanks man, that was really appreciated. i was a bit pissed off though to
find i had travelled all the way from ireland to find i had no-where to stay, except for
the 'vip' lounge. enough said on that one.
on saturday morning, beast and ser were up and in
fighting form. ser had to play gadget, beating him 21-05 and then
having to face
target="_blank">kane who beat ser 24-1 on ztn. beast, however was a different
matter. before the game, b100.death was setting up and myself,
sonic and gman were giving the poor lad a bit of a slagging about his t-shirt as it had
sponsored names on it and a big b100.death all over it. the slagging went along the
lines of : 'ooh, look at me, ive got a cool t-shirt with my name on it and i must be
really good!'. hilarious at the time, (till he destroyed beast) and even
funnier when we found out later that he actually won the entire tourney! the
irish counter-strike
boys (gss) were up next, sponsored by
href="http://www.doesnotcompute.ie/" target="_blank">dnc, they had to play the german
team, gkf. at the cpl tourneys, a team only gets scores when
playing as terrorists. so as counter-terrorists, you have to reduce as much points
as possible against you. the gss guys played brilliantly as terrorists, getting a
massive 8 games in under their belts. csa were the only other team
to get higher. as ct though, it didn't quite work out the way it was planned and
they got a bit of a bashing, thus, eliminating them from the competition. with all
the irish knocked out of the tourney, i decided i would head into
href="http://www.channels.nl/straat/bigpictures/damrak/mvc-008f.jpg" target="_blank">amsterdam,
get a room for the night and do a bit of partying and come back tomorrow.
amsterdam
is a seriously fun city to go if you just want to get dunk, binned or banged. myself
and van met up with the nethouse
guys, beast, ser (and michelle), shadow, sico, gman and devore, (i'm sure i'm forgetting
someone! - i later realised this someone was sonic!). i brought the lads to a coffee
shop on a canal that devore showed me earlier and began drink and smoke ourselves into
oblivion. to be very honest, i can't really remember much more of this night except
for the lot of us taking a walk down the
href="http://www.channels.nl/straat/bigpictures/oz_achterburgwal/mvc-013f.jpg"
target="_blank">red-light district having a larf. man, if you haven't ever seen this,
you should at least take a walk down the area. it's an eye opener to say the least!
for some bizarre reason, we ended up in the west end gay area. i vaguely
remember someone saying 'err, why are we standing outside a gay cinema, surely this is not
where were supposed to be?' god knows what the hell we were doing there 'cos i cant
remember even getting there in the first place!
the next day, we met up the nethouse boys again to have a quick drink and go back out
to the cpl. this didn't turn out that way. as soon as i took another
drink/smoke, i was out for the count and went back to la-la land. i know i was
supposed to go back to the cpl event, but jesus', i couldn't remember where my feet was,
let along make an hour and half trip out to the event centre. sorry griff, i know i
shoulda been there, i think you can understand what happened though. at this
point, we all realised that we were missing sonic (who had no money to get back to
amsterdam) and we had no-way to contact him.
most of the nethouse guys had to make flight in brussels for monday morning so they were
heading off early to catch some brussels night life. this left myself, van and gman
(all totally binned) trying to put three braincells together (we only had one each at this
point at time) to figure out a way of finding out if sonic was still out at the event
centre. the seriousness of the issue made me awaken and we got hold of gary (meglome)
and the gss lads. some of the gss boys were going back to the cpl and whilst
there would get sonic back to amsterdam.
while with the gss boys, we decided to take a
href="http://muppetry.com/~daire/cpl/dscf0058.jpg" target="_blank">boat trip around
the city of amsterdam, this turned out to be excellent and really showed there is more to
life in amsterdam then just drugs and the red-light. again, that night we all met
up. the remainder of the nethouse boys (including sonic this time), the gss and dnc
boys and plant and two of his friends. we stayed most of the night
at the grasshopper inn where we had a great laugh and lots of drinks.
i faded really fast and ended back up in my hotel room at about 1am, but the rest
of the guys had a whale of a time from all-accounts. i would like make a note of
this - gary and martin from dnc really looked after the gss guys from start to end.
i was very impressed with the responsible attitude and 'fathering' of the team.
besides making sure they younger lads didn't get up to any bold things, they paid
for all the bus's, trains, food and drink. and in general, i'm 100% sure, the gss
guys were over the moon with the professional way they were treated. gary, well
done. just in case neil from nethouse thinks anything different, erm, you've been
doing this for years now, so you already know the score and you know we all dearly love
you
the last day, i did a bit of pressie shopping with van and headed off to the airport.
one of the presents i had bought, i fucking left it on the train to the airport and
was rather sickened. apart from that, i had a fucking amazing time over in amsterdam
and will probably go back again sometime.
