yesterday i ran another competition for the irish quakers and once again, i was majorly let down by irish players. causing the collapse of two teams as they were short and all sorts of headaches to boot. drop-outs were to be expected, but for the love of god, there was about 5 players who showed out of the 20 or so irish players who did sign up.

that was the last time i will ever run another league or lan for irish gamers. its not the first time this has happened either. oh i could really go on here. but as an example, i recently made huge modifications to quake.ie and do you think one of the admins would say something or give me any feedback ?

im moving on. if you lot wont be part of your own community, why the hell should i spend the time when nobody has the interest?

if one of the admins from quake.ie would like to mail me, i will pass on the details of the entire site, including hosting, ftp, channel bots, etc, etc.

comment update :
thanks for the comments of support. i had a think about the whole thing and talked to a few of you on irc about it. ive reconsidered the thing.. in a way.

i've decided to take a complete back seat to the whole scene, rather than leave it, and hopefully get a bit of a breather. ive been doing things for 6 years now and to be honest, i'm just a little tired (its the old bones really)

anyway, a number of you have expressed the desire to help/takeover the site. you know who you are. thanks and i appreciate the offers. i have decided to pass the admin of the site, the hosting, the ftp, the channel and everything else thats needed to keep things running smoothly to zero. i know he will do a good job, perhaps he will pass the various jobs about and see how that goes. i don't know, but hey, i wish you the best with it.

i'll update from time to time. be cool and have fun.

ive donated to quake.ie!

nobody else would be capable of doing what you do here MP.. would be a huge shame to lose it. I know there were 7 FH ctf players in the quake.ie cup yesterday, me and dest were away on Sunday so we didn't sign up. I'm sorry that we don't voice our appreciation as well as we could, but FH has always admired your contribution to Irish quake, especially since EuroCTF.

I enjoyed the games yesterday and about the site, I have to admit that since the design and layout is different, I'm now checking it almost everyday.

About the people not showing up, don't worry, either they will show up at some stage (if you organise other cups) or new players will turn up.

Thanks

dunno, i thought the league was a success, i enjoyed it anyway

dont blame you though eric, theres usually not much commitment except from people who play a lot anyway, in leagues like this (unless there is a prize or something)

I turned up, but because I never play ctf, I didn't have any of the maps. Having played 3wave before, I thought I'd at least have some of them, and there was about 80 megs of stuff to download on single channel isdn. I didn't realise for a good while that it was a ctf cup, yes it is my own fault for not checking it up, I'm sorry, I should have cancelled my registration. I think your work is greatly appreciated eric, but considering the time and effort you put into it, not by very many Irish people, because there just aren't very many Irish quake players. I think perhaps it would be better if you took a back seat, don't leave Irish quake altogether, because I don't think anyone else is able to fill your boots, but don't worry yourself unduly organising competitions. That way you won't be so disappointed.

There is fuck all old school quakers left who actually do anything, your self and zero are 2 there is more but.

Why bother? cause it's quake, there is always being let down, but there is also times when it is great and when it's great it god damn marvellous.

Nice list of exuses from people here anyway .

Zero's a good choice he does F all at work anyway so he'll have plenty of time .

I'd offer to help but well, little I have almost zero net access atm waiting to see where I am next sept before I arrange getting in either Powernet or ADSL.

You'll be back you know it.

seems Zero you could do one thing first ... can you please fix my name? it's leaving out the second part for some reason? it does the same with the login cookies it only remember Lord and the password but not Khan... might be as well to remove the space and make it all one word LordKhan please ...

MindPhuck ... what about room101/room101.org are those gone too or are you going to still do the big lans and host the site?
