i was going to write this as a comment on the urban terror thread but it got so big i thought i would put it here:

it's amazing how many ideas you see that a lot of people recognise as 'original' have been around before. my example? urban terror.
i have played this a bit recently enjoying the different game play of it vs. q3 (if you've not played it think cs but with spawn rape). the repative idea is this: a while back our own dear crusader wrote a mod for q1/qw called real life quake (rlq). in it there were realistic weapons, bleeding, hit location (more sophisticated that the cs stuff according to crus), a laser sight, climbing, crouching, and not forgetting a large selection of grenades (including flashbangs).

the mod wasn't widely published, which is a shame as i belive a lot more people would be going 'been there, done that' if it had. now, q3 provides more than it's fair share of funny moments but rlq took the biscuit imo (and i think ut is on it's way there). there is nothing better than crouching down round a corner and shooting the nme in the knees as they come round said corner. then, while they figure out why the can't move anymore, you jump up and plant an axe in their head. classic. playing in a darkend computer lab at uni disregarding the aup for the lan, many a happy hour was spent trying to litterally blind your oponents with flashbangs that set the monitor just a little too white and bright :-) taunting your oponents while they crawled towards the medipack and then just adding 1 more bullet to the leg, that would cause them to bleed to death about 2 pixels away was also very funny.

as i say, been there, done that

btw, i'm not saying the ut guys have stole any ideas n' stuff just that some ideas are so good they keep being repeated, and my mate got there first :-)

(this reminisance/flagwaving is over now, you can go back to your lives)

and if I hadn't stolen Gooseman's weaponmodels for RLQ, counterstrike might never have happened. honest.

Playing in a darkened computer lab definitely accentuates flashbangs.. to the extent you could flashbang groups of people with on grenade (cos the middle person's monitor would go 255 white

Ahh those were the days..
