| big it up all for the meph0d man. first post of the day, week, month year whatever, ever. small introduction - studying history at uni - where i get my l33t connection which everyone is entitled to whinge about coz it don’t matter when i blatt them with it. who’s laughing now fat boy? also if anyone else is studying a non gh3y/science subject and playing quake please let me know - i feel rather alone. onto larger matters. been playing a lot of ca recently, and i've had an epiphany. ca is actually q3 stripped down to its essence. i'm not saying that in gaming terms or anything - i mean obviously it involves different things or it wouldn’t exactly be much of a mod ( not really modifying anything ). what i mean is, ca is played on 1 map. normally involving the same type of play, and you normally end up playing the same people over and over again ( which can be a bad thing, naming no names ) but does this make it boring? not for most people that play it anyway. it makes it more friendly, more inviting, more homely. dm6 is my home away from home. and the way i play nearly every game the same way? it enables me to turn my mind off and just relax. brain goes into autopilot ( only turns on again when you realise its only you vs. 6 other people ‘cause all your team-mates have been ass wiped. brain goes into autopilot…dm6 is my temple. it is my waterfall where i am able to be truly at peace. am i being weird here? probably slightly. i’m a one map guy, in qw it was dm4 ( and no, i’m not going to play you at it mp ) i must have spent more time in dm4 than i spent in school ( though i got my arse kicked a lot more in dm4) bad place. bad place. everyone talks about quake being addictive – but this was more than that – it took on almost spiritual connotations. what is my point? is quake really that relaxing? does it really facilitate a deeper sense of self-detachment and spiritual harmony? in reality, no. there are llamas, and moaners, and lag that ruins my attempt to attain such a goal. but it could do, and that’s what really scares me. if it did, then my studies would be truly fucked. so, i’m probably the one person in the gaming community secretly hoping that id don’t come up with the goods on the new patch. and even if they do, the gaming community can always help me by producing more llamas and moaners. cheers.
