| "thresh" the legend returns ?????????
for those of you that don't know who "thresh" is then what planet are you from?? . here's a profile about one of the world greatest gaming legends.
profile: dennis "thresh" fong's legacy as the premier pro-gamer of our time began all the way back in 1995 (a virtual eon ago, for all intents and purposes in today's hi-tech world). at the judgment day doom tournament in seattle, washington, the unknown 18 year-old rookie upset the competition and stole the tourney. the win earned him a $10,000 state-of-the-art pc gaming rig. it was the red annihilation quake tournament during the summer of 1997, however, that would catapult him into the mainstream spotlight and solidify his place in gaming history. thresh went undefeated against his competition and won the grand prize: a cherry red ferrari 328gts provided by quake co-creator john carmack. (the car is currently on display in the gamers.com front lobby…talk about a waste…). almost immediately, he became a star. salon hailed him as "…possibly the best spokesman gaming could have…" he was featured in other publications and television shows including rolling stone, playboy, l.a. times, the wall street journal and good morning america.
not content to rest on his laurels, dennis went on to win first place at the professional gamers' league's opening season one-on-one tournament. season three of the pgl saw thresh's return, where he once again took home top honors, this time in the quake ii dueling competition. he also lead his clan, death row, to first place in the quake team competition. with sponsorship from microsoft and diamond multimedia, dennis became the first true "professional gamer."
in 1997, dennis co-founded gx media, parent company to gamers.com and firingsquad, a gaming site dedicated to hardcore pc gaming news and hardware. in 1998, dennis was forced to hang up his rocket launcher. due to his full-time job of running a professional business, his days of pro-gaming came to an end.
many people still speculate whether or not the great legend will come back onto the gaming scene and once again show that he still can compete with the worlds best. i for one was dazzled by the demos of thresh when i first started to play quakeworld and his demos in quake2 were unreal. i was very disappointed not to see him play quake3 and i believed this would be the last we'd see of him. but while browsing the net the other day i spotted a glimer of hope for you fans of thresh out there.
check this out. (4th on list)
the name d11-thresh lying in 4th position in the 4v4 team games in warcraft3 on the east coast of the usa. i'm almost certain this is him because he was class at warcraft2 also. the "d11" comes from his number in his quake clan "deathrow". i for one hope he comes back and kick the shite out of everyone. one to keep and eye on.
