the emergence of clan n8z breathed fire back into the belly of the irish quake scene. chivalrous rivalry ressurected betweens the tribes, the boy scouts recieved payment to evacuate to the wicklow mountains to learn new types of knots for bondage sessions in later life. thus the vast horde of sweat nerds took occupation of their modern art muesum/boy scout club hall. the battles commenced resulting in legions of biohazardous materials left in the wake of the rival factions shooting pixels - it would make a forensic detective puke. suddenly the sun begins its triumphant rise and wakes the lightweights up with its eye stinging rays capable of producing 1000 hz at 1024. standard nerds becomes humans readying themselves for a return to normality whilst the lolnerds remain, extracting every penny of the entrance fee and driving the esb closer to nuclear energy production.

neurotransmitters fubar from nicotine, caffeine alcohol and watching the bouncing pinging tankjr. depression and fatigue and beginning to creep in from the pain of the 25kg monitor ramming into your balls when the cars suspension is forced to act. the visualisation and re-enactment of lolnerds actually saying 'lol' instead of laughing are your only saviour from the gushing pain of the monitor. however these days are over, quake3 is dead, long live the king.

if you have been keeping in touch with the development of new games by reading previews, interviews or more importantly by playing the demos you must fear for the future of deathmatch as much as i do. the eloquent , frenzied, hectic-paced sheer destruction of plain and simple deathmatch has surely been fossilized by q3. i have a sneaking pessimistic feeling that q4 will not offer what its 3 predecessors had in abundance and will fail miserably of advancing deathmatch games by offering a transparently souped up doom3 deathmatch type of game and physics. the vast sea of hysterical id software fans will take a while to figure out its the postmans baby yet again but alas they will. games arent getting better ladies, marketing is.

Games havent been getting better at all, sure in my opinion the best game was made 9 years ago. But it's all down to opinion, some of the qw'ers, q2'ers and q3'ers will like quake4 and move to it, some will play both while the majority will say "this is shit" and go back to their games. I'd like to be in the second group, but I fear I'll be in the third.

BF 2 = shite... no innovation, no worth while gameplay changes... smells like Vietnam...

Raven have a chance to give a realistic alternative to the spammy UT series. simple, fast paced & balanced deathmatch... things I gave up on painkiller to try Q3

Off topic, but I wonder does anyone still play q2 in Ireland anymore? I know of q3 and qw players, but no "q2'ers"...

"So when your clique decided it was over then that was the end of Irish Q3 - I suppose you own the Internet and hide it in a box underneath your stairs"

I'll start with you Searry. What part of what I said are you disputing? The fact that Rapp is right about the Irish q3 scene being completely gone, or the fact that benji never saw it? At least benji has some claim to dispute the latter, seing how occasionally a modem BenjiSPENDLOVE appeared on IRC, but I will get to that later. Perhaps you think the Irish q3 scene is vibrant at the moment? I will also get to that later.

I would like to address your tone firstly, which I believe harbours a hint of hostility. I am interested in this 'clique' of mine that you refer to. I have never had a clique before so I'm really excited to hear about this one. Can you tell me who else is in it?

BTW, I don't think we were ever introduced properly... are you *NemesiS*' buddy from that LAN? What is causing your hostile tone? If you are an aliaser who used a different nick back when there was still an Irish q3 scene, then what was that nick? If not then the closest thing you came to seeing the Irish q3 scene is when Koopa went down there to win some money from your clique. Can my clique fight your clique? Who else is in your clique? Maybe we could give €200euro to the winner?

"your unreal killy, just because u stopped playing q3 doesnt mean its dead, u gave up and stopped playing and its still going now and tbh maybe i didnt see the quake scene but i did see the q3 scene as ive been playing online since 2000 and the game was out in what? 99? so i missed the first year wow, and i got the next 4-5 years"

Benji, firstly who said that the reason tht the Irish q3 scene is gone is because I stopped playing? That never occurred to me, although I'm flattered that the thought occurred to you. In fact, the opposite is almost true, that I nearly stopped playing because the Irish q3 scene was dead. As it happens, I still play, and I played every single game for TS this season, except for last week when I had a power cut right before the game. As it happens, I even play TDM in leagues for a UK team. I even have the odd game outside of leagues. This makes your statement look a bit stupid, but thats what most people would expect from you.

The rest of your post is very muddled, please take deep breaths and try to remain calm when typing your response. (Punctuation helps.) I hate to have to repeat it for you benji, but you missed the Irish q3 scene. I know it might hurt, but its silly to deny it by saying that you have been playing online for 5 years. FH was well established when friends of dest found their way onto q3 servers, and when yourself and Jimpoo eventually founded Jobos, iirc it was early 2003, or late 2002 at best - feel free to search the quake.ie news archive.

Of course, lets argue for the sake of retardedness that you HAVE been active in the Irish scene for nearly 5 years. You patiently queued while both quake3-1.ign.ie and quake3-2.ign.ie were full. You were privileged to partake in the first IQ3CL - the Irish Quake 3 Clan league. Which clan did you play for at the time?

se7en?, dk?, IR?, 4p?, H?, DF?, HIV?, DZR?, BiO? You must been in CM or EED who unfortunately pulled out. This is when q3 was at its height, and if you didn't see it at its height, then you really can't judge how far it has fallen. For somebody living in Bray, you attended surprisingly few LANs at the time. ShadowLAN, AniLAN, Trinlan 1, and Trinlan 2, the CPL qualifiers... even I managed to get to Dublin for some LANs, all the way from Cork.

You were lucky to be around early enough to watch the Nations cups when they actually meant something. The organisation and effort put into these competitions by all nations shames anything you see these days, in a competition which is now just a chance for division 3 standard players to boast about their default win over their neighbouring country. (You can put that on your CV too.) You must have been one of the dozens of Irish players following the online qualifiers against Spain and Portugal, or the LAN games against the 4k-heavy English team on dm14 on LAN, losing out in the best of 3 despite a great win in one of the games.

The rivalries - some friendly, some not so friendly; se7en-PS, PS-nD (leading to the showdown at Trinlan), and later BiO-FH and FH-Acid. The RA3 server, meeting new enthusiastic Irish players.

Later on there was IQ3CL2 - when BiO, despite being mostly UK players, could still field 4 Irish players - simo, skelter, mike, jedi and one or two others. FH ticking away despite the connections, nD looking good, Acid, PS, and even HIV and IR giving it a bash. There were quake.ie cups, tdm and ctf, Savage-euro, Irish teams in Clan-Wars leagues, Wireplay leagues, cups, Barrysworld, UKCCL mixed, modem, lpb league, UKS League, 1v1 leagues, ffa leagues, and others. Irish people playing in top division UK clans, and scattered throughout the divisions.

By the time you had a clan tag with Jobos, the Irish q3 scene was already dead. For YEARS, FH had been the only consistent representation we had in leagues. One clan does not constitute a 'scene'. FH tread water for a long time, hoping that there might be some revival. There were several attempts, and although they tower over the miserable scattering of players that benji and Searry like to call 'the Irish q3 scene', it was practically nothing. I could go on forever but I think you get the point...

"so if ur gonna say i missed ther q3 scene then u missed the quake scene as u werent there from 1996 so stfu tbh"

.... of course I missed the Irish quake scene. By the time I started playing regularly in 1999, there were only a handful of clans, very few pracs, and only the odd Irish league left. I could do the benji and point out that I once connected to a server in 1996, and hence I have been playing for 9 years, but that would be stupid. Its nothing to be ashamed of, so theres no need to take offence, so I don't know where the 'stfu tbh' is coming from.

And theres no Irish q2 scene either, if that answers your question quetzal. A couple of lads playing occasionally down in UL does not change that.

Wow, my sarcastic comment aimed at the biased opinions from "could have been contenders" on a pasttime that is no longer played by people who being considered the best in this area from our small Island...couldnt have struck such a spineless effort of a response, undeniably lacking in any form of wit or humour

Since giving up on PK, I've started play q3 online for the first time (last November) and I have had a load of help from Irish players and have found it more rewarding than PK...

But if you say its dead then why should I bother, So, belittle my friends, claim utter ignorance of cliques within gaming communities... I'll play what I want and I dont expect to get ridiculed because you're not intrested in the game anymore...

(btw its F7 in MS-Word for spell/grammar check... I hope this saves you the time pedantically combing my response)

Searry, you're clearly new to this. Spell correction as an attack form died out in 2002 along with Q3, so you don't need to be so paranoid. All I ask for is a bit of clarity in your sentence structure to rule out ambiguity. Your first sentence for example, "Wow, my sarcastic comment aimed at the biased opinions from "could have been contenders" on a pasttime that is no longer played by people who being considered the best in this area from our small Island...couldnt have struck such a spineless effort of a response, undeniably lacking in any form of wit or humour" could have been worded better just to make clearer what you are trying to say.

What exactly ARE you trying to say? I really don't get it. Are you saying that my response was undeniably spineless and lacking in any form of wit or humour? Who are the "could have been contenders" you refer to? I'm really worried that we have another benji on our hands (no offence benji).

"But if you say its dead then why should I bother"... where do I start with this one. I'll just remind you that it is a game, and you play it for fun. If you enjoy it, play it, if not then don't. An Irish scene makes a game more enjoyable usually, but if you're happy to play your games abroad then good luck. As I said in my last post, I still play quake 3. Other peoples' opinions of the state of the community should not affect that. In fact, I still play telnet MUD occasionally on a server that is almost completely dead. Do you think I would care if somebody pointed out the fact that the server was dead? I certainly wouldn't jump on the offensive like yourself, or on the defensive like benji, and I definitely wouldn't call it ridicule. Where did I ridicule you? If it was in my last post then that was just a reply to your own comments in this thread. I have no reason to belittle your friends who I don't even know... although I think I met swiss briefly at a lan and he seemed sound, I was just trying to confirm whether or not I had the same guy. Again you say that I'm not interested in the game, but if you read my column from a couple of weeks ago you would see that I was considering getting an Irish TDM team together if there was enthusiasm. Instead I joined a UK team and am currently active in two different clans in UK. Why do you insist on making these assumptions? As far as I know, you don't even know me, perhaps I offended you in a past life? If you're just standing up for benji then fair enough, but I would advise against that lost cause.

:rollfuckingears:

How many ways do you want me to say it?

"So when your clique decided it was over then that was the end of Irish Q3"

Hostility, pfft

You claim the higher ground with your years of expierence with some Irish Quake players... "If I wasnt there I didnt exist", double pfft

"Isnt he from Waterford, he must know Nemmar so, har har har!", and of course triple pfft

The was no tone to my comment, just an observation on my part, so throw your "You werent there MAN, YOU WERENT THERE!" in my face, and then casually mention that I knew nem (and not only that "Can my clique fight your clique? Who else is in your clique? Maybe we could give €200euro to the winner?" you're funny man)

It really sums up to a "Spineless & devoid of wit" response.

heh, lads, q3 is dead. when Q4 or ET:QW returns, i'll be playing it, along side the rest of you, like what happened with quake and quake2.. quake3 is in a loooong lull and the 'scene' wont really return to queing for servers until the next gen of quakedom come out. so in the meantime, im still playing BF2, regardless even if people think its great or it blows.. i'll play it, because there is a community around it and believe it or not, its fun. More fun that sitting around here waiting and moaning about how coool ye are still playing it.

I - of all people - can reckognise that where q3 is atm - so get with the picture lads, Quake3 is dead. Long live the king.

Searry:
":rollfuckingears:
How many ways do you want me to say it?"
As I said already, just one way will suffice. Not a load of ways muddled into one.

"So when your clique decided it was over then that was the end of Irish Q3"
By quoting this statement that you made earlier, what exactly is your intention? Is this simply an attempt at reiterating the statement or is this related to the rolling of your ears? (How do you roll your ears anyway, I know a guy who can twitch them really well, but I have never seen anyone roll them). BTW, you still haven't told me who else is in my clique....??? Please let me know because I need to order our uniforms.

"Hostility, pfft"
??

"You claim the higher ground with your years of expierence with some Irish Quake players... "If I wasnt there I didnt exist", "
Back to this problem again, you must try to be clear in what you are saying. Between yourself and benji you really make a nice couple. I will have to ignore this statement because it makes very little sense, please feel free to reword it and I will deal with it later.

"double pfft"
??? Is this a new thing?

""Isnt he from Waterford, he must know Nemmar so, har har har!"
Nothing to do with that, just I vaguely remember your name from that *NemesiS* escapade (thats who you are referring to as Nemmar, right?) I hope you're not still hurting over that... if it makes you feel any better some of us sympathised with ye... Have to say I never really agreed with the idea of exploiting the arrogance of some clueless big fish and even warned *NemesiS* in a private message that everyone was winding him up. You must rise above all that, very few people even remember you as part of that I'd imagine, and the rest (myself included) would hardly blame you.

"and of course triple pfft"
??. no comment. (fag)

"It really sums up to a "Spineless & devoid of wit" response."
It really doesn't... I realise your comprehension is poor but you suck at sums too!! Where exactly does the lack of spine come in here? Do you think that theres something I said that I can't back up? Out of the two of us, if I had to label one as spineless, it would easily be yourself, because you snipe with some comments which you won't even add to. You have no idea how long I waited for a clique and now that I finally have one you won't even tell me who is in it. That hurts, man.

Benji:
"missing 1 year and getting 5 more is not 'missing the q3 scene' can u not work this out?"
Searrard may be lacking in the comprehension and sums a bit but you're just plain thick. I've said it before and I don't know why I even bother arguing with you except I quite enjoy it sometimes.

"and i dont need to go to all these lans u talked about to show that, u missed quite a few darkside lans, does this mean u missed irish q3?"
Think, then type.

"and for someone who is so IN the q3 scene you suck"
Unfortunately its another one which has been played to death. It goes something like this:
benji: you suck
me: that depends, sucking is usually relative - I suck compared to whom? Yes I agree that I suck compared to most division 1 players, but not compared to most division 4 players for example. What standard did you have in mind when you said I suck?
benji: uhhh uh...
benji thinks for a few hours
benji: what was the first part again?
benji: uhhhh
a few hours later...
benji: uhh you suck... i think

""I'm really worried that we have another benji on our hands (no offence benji). "
afraid to get owned twice as much now ? boohoo"
Is boohoo supposed to indicate that you are crying? I know you usually start crying around this time. And yes I am terrified, I will get owned twice as much now. That makes sense alright, at least you thought for a few hours before you typed that one.

Mindphuck:
"heheh, god, this is great. without going into anything, im sure you all realize your ALL fucking newbies in my eyes

This all started when I merely agreed with Rapp's statement of almost this exact same thing, but even on a smaller scale since it referred specifically to Irish q3 scene. MP, you have no idea how odd these guys are, they go berserk over anything. p.s., if you ask Searry nicely, you can be in my clique.
