01/12/2005 11:10 #5 [spectator] Laurent Humblet posts : 222 administrator ET/QW: 2006 To me Quake 4 feels like there is something wrong with the movements. idsoftware invented strafe jumps and circle jumps and perfected them with quake 3 (with CPMA being the bunny hopping mod). Adding crouch sliding was a brilliant idea to add more possibilities while still being a natural movement. Yet, they added something to the the overall movement and it feels clumsy or bumpy or simply not right (Im not gonna say wrong here but just not right). Q4 is far from what Quake 3 was (and even Quake 2 or Quake 1 although Im not a q1 movement master). The weapons balance is secondary as it can be tweaked at will with mods as it has already been the case with OSP and Q3 but the movements are the very essence of the first three Quakes (as well as RTCW) and messing with it will just wreck it all. 01/12/2005 18:46 #7 dest Owen McNally posts : 109 yeah i have to say i have absolutely no desire to play q4 at the moment. while the crouchsliding is a nice try the movement is just generally annoying with the lack of doublejumps etc. it seems like they got a bit confused about what was what with the weapons. the lack of a command to turn off the lights out of the box is ridiculous, joining servers without all the necessary .pak files is a joke. the maps are by far the worst collection i have seen in any game. what the hell happened with quake1? we got dm2/3/4/6 with that, all abosolutely excellent, q3 had dm6/7/14 atleast. it all seems like a very poor attempt at a multiplayer game. in fact there is no multiplayer game here, they may aswell have not put any multiplayer in the game whatsoever and let the mod community start from scratch instead of tryin to unfuck their mess. </rant>

Didnt quake1/3 take a while for patches to emerge? To this day Quakeworld is being improved upon by its fanbase. QW is a fantastic game, but would I like it as much if the 2.20 client was the only client available? Probably not. "Spoilt" springs to mind when I see all this whine. The game is only new, it requires time for it to be molded, give it a chance. Progaymers these days B>

With q4 I dont get the same running feeling I get when I play quake 3 (esp. CTF) but maybe its just me not getting the smoothness right but I doubt it. About the problems with weapons, maps and mods etc, is just a matter of time before something great comes out.

While Q4 can be somewhat enjoyable, the flaws are far more glaring. There appears to be a general dislike for the game with many clinging onto hope because it is Quake. Many of us have memories of great games in previous versions we would like to re-live, but it is starting to seem like Q4 will not allow us to do so.

From here on, any companies releasing future sequels for a favourite game that turn out to be shit will be noted as having "pulled a mixu" on it. * when you hit someone with a rail that would have missed in q3, you are said to have been "mixy" * when you crouchslide into a wall at about 200kph by accident, you "mixuslid" * when you miraculously manage an air rocket frag, it was an "mix-air" - Ois p.s. lets mod mixu into a lotus.   edited by x0n on 03/12/2005 20:42
