| Yep, it was a bit crowded but we had the option of renting out another room beside the one we were using. If a few more people had turned up, it would have justified the other room.
For our next big public lan, well use the ballroom in the hotel. There was a wedding in there at the time, hence the amount of drunk randomers asking us what the hell were all the computers doing there, and why did they all have lights inside them. This also explains the 4-5 females who were spotted trying to blag swag from the prize table.
As for the paper, they must have looked at the signups and spotted 144 people signed up and printed that. *shake fist at their ignorance* It was probably a mixture of the newspaper writer exaggerating his story(as they all do), and over-zealous people signing up with little intention of attending.
In any case, size doesnt matter (insert sexual innuendo here). Some of the best lans Ive ever been to had 10 or less people.
[I blame the media and society]
Hehe, in any case that particular newspaper has probably tripled its readership of that article from this thread alone.
I thought the lan went fine, pity that the electrician was slightly inaccurate in his calculations.
Its good to hear that folks who hadnt been to midlan before, or infact any lan before enjoyed it, and will return again to midlan and other lans. Its good fopr the community, which is a great thing.
"Was far too cramped in that room imo, esp trying to get my gear in on the sat afternoon."-Jimeatsmenu
Hehe, I read that as getting my hair in on the sat afternoon
It was great to see that all the guys from TiG, and the GiTs who signed up came along. And kicked the BF2 tournament around the place.
All in all, I found I was chatting and networking(literally and figuratively) with more people than ever at this lan. Which is always a good thing.
Would a public name and shame list be good for the lan scene? ie- if you fail to attend and hadnt removed your name from the list on 3 seperate occasions, for any 3 lans you get your name on a permanant list.
And thanks Eric for the lift home. You were a lifesaver. The young uns were running wild by the time I got back, as ya saw.
