  WCG Update - 18/09/2006BioHazRd | 4178 views | 0 replies
Due to the large number of bouncing emails, I have decided to post the contents of the latest email here.

We are now winding things up a gear to bring you the first WCG qualifiers in Ireland, and I am sending you this email to give you some important information.

First off, I would like to thank all those who responded to my last email indicating what competitions they would like to participate in. This information has gone a long way towards shaping how the event will be run.

Unfortunately for some people, the poor take-up of some games means that not all competitions will be WCG qualifiers. From the information received, the following games WILL be WCG qualifiers and will provide representatives for Ireland at the WCG world finals in Monza in October.

Counterstrike 1.6 (PC)(Team of 5 to qualify)
Starcraft Broodwar (PC)(1 player to qualify)
Dead Or Alive (Xbox 360)(1 player to qualify)
Project Gotham Racing 3 (Xbox 360)(1 player to qualify)

The following competitions did not attract enough participants to justify WCG representation

Need for Speed Most Wanted (PC)
Warcraft 3 (PC)
Dawn Of War (PC)
FIFA 06 (PC)

I wish to thank those who applied to partake in the above games, and should you wish to change your game to one that will qualify for the world finals, this will be facilitated. We may run these competitions as a side event on the day, but this will be decided by the schedule on the day.

Furthermore, it was intended to provide a number of PCs on the day for people to compete on should they decide not to bring their own to the BYOC lan, and we have been working on this right up to the last minute. Unfortunately we have not been able to secure sponsorship in this respect from any of the major industry vendors, and this has limited our scope to provide this facility somewhat. We will have a limited number of PCs available on the day for people to compete on, but this number is below what we would desire. In this respect I would ask anyone who has considered not bringing their PC to the event to reconsider, and if at all possible, to bring their PC to the event. We will have security measures in place and your PC will be as safe as we can possibly ensure. If anyone coming to the BYOC event only would consider letting a competitor use their machine for the tournaments this would be greatly appreciated. I dont think we will have too big an issue with lack of PCs, but if more PCs are available initially for the early rounds, we should be able to have quite a show in the evening for the grand finals on the main stage. And you would also be earning our eternal gratitiude.

This is an opportunity for the Irish gaming scene to get behind an event that we are running under our own steam, and will give a chance for Ireland to be represented on the world stage.

If participants want to bring a friend to this event they should get their ticket from www.worldcybergamesireland.com

Now, onto the details

1. All WCG competitors must be over 18, and have a valid Irish passport
2. ID will be required to enter the competitions (passport please)
3. Registration for the BYOC lan and the WCG qualifiers will run from 10.00 am till 12.30pm
4. Competitions will start at 1pm sharp
5. All competitors will have 15 minutes from their alloted time slot to start their game
6. Any competitor not ready 15 minutes after their alloted timeslot will forfeit the match
7. Referees will be alloted to each game, and will be identified clearly to the competitors
8. Referees decisions will be final, and can only be over-ridden by the Event Referee
9. Any disputes are to be voiced to the referee by the team captain only (cs 1.6)
10. Any disputes about referee decisions are to be brought to the attention of the Event Referee by the team captain only (cs 1.6)
11. The above two points also apply to competitors in the individual competitions (Starcraft, DOA, PGR3)

There will be further rule explanation to all competitors at the event

The BYOC lan will also have certain rules applying

1. No open windows shares will be permitted. If you dont know how to disable them, ask an admin to do it for you.
2. No File sharing will be permitted. We will be regularly scanning the network, and any breaches will result in a visit from an admin and / or disconnection from the network.
3. Make sure you have anti virus protection that is up to date. If we find virus traffic coming from your PC, we will disconnect you from the network immediately till the problem is rectified to our satisfaction. If you do not have any anti virus package, you could try AVG from www.grisoft.com. Its free
4. The threat security of your PC is your responsibility. Use a firewall. If you are concerned about any issues regarding this, ask an admin
5. This is a non-alcohol event, no alcohol will be allowed inside the premises.
6. Smoking is only to be done in designated areas outside the building. Smoking will not be permitted inside.
7. No viewing of inappropriate material will be permitted

A fuller list of rules will be available on the day

Things to bring:

Your PC, Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Headphones. Speakers will not be allowed. You will also not be allowed plug in kettles / fridges / microwaves etc.
A power strip (you will only have 1 13amp socket available to you)
Any medication you may need (If you are somebody who needs medication, please identify yourself on registration)
Money. This is a free event, but you will need to eat / drink, and there will be a shop onsite offering snacks, tea and coffee. We will also have representation from Dominos Pizza.
It may be also a good idea to bring any OS, Games disks aswell, as there is always someone who has a catastrophic failure and has to rebuild their PC - It could be you this time

Where to go:
The event is taking place in The Digital Exchange, Crane Street, Dublin 8
I have attached a map indicating where this is.
The doors open at 10.00 am Saturday 23rd and registration will commence immediately
Parking is available on a first come first served basis at the rear of the building.
You can drop your PC off at the main entrance, then drive around and park at the rear. There is also a public car park nearby on Thomas Street. The Luas is a 5 minute (approx) walk from the venue.
The BYOC event will run for the full 24 hours, and will close at 10.00am sharp on Sunday 24th. There will be limited access to the BYOC area to ensure greater security, and as such all registered atendees must wear their event ID badges at all times.

IF you have any further questions on any of the matters raised above, please address it to one of the channel operators on #wcg.ie on IRC (quakenet server), or drop an email to WCG.Ireland@gmail.com
