I am in Stockholm at the moment learning all about the joys of bluetooth and gprs communication protocols in a critical care environment.......Im only half way through, and my brain is full already.

I was at Midlans at the weekend, and it wasnt half bad tbh. Arrived on Saturday about 12, and signed in. We got our seats set up and away we went. That is, until the power cut. Ah well, time for a smoke, a pint and a chat, so no big deal. All was good. After the tea break, time for some BF2. My chance to shine was upon me, I was going to uphold the honour of the GiTs . I wouldnt say we are 1337, more like 1.337 tbh. We were in for a pasting, and we were damn well going to enjoy it. Then God (or someone else who doesnt like me) intervened.
I loaded BF2 and instead of the splash screen, I got "unknown hard error" followed by the dreaded BSOD. Then the coup de grace...Non System Disk. WTF !!! How am I going to get the TiG guys to wonder in awe at my complete lack of skills. No problem, We have the technology to hand.....In goes the trusty ERD commander disk, reboot and all will be sorted.
NOPE.....
Ok, dont panic, out comes the windows disk (can you sense my desperation yet ?)
Yay for recovery console...hang on, wheres the feckin c drive gone ?
No amount of fdisk or fixboots have any effect. The screen just sits there, mocking me, D: and E: are gone too. Windows installer sees the drive as unformatted space.
I gave in, the system had me beaten, I had to reinstall windows.
But, now it only sees 130gigs, (its a 250 gig drive) so Im gonna have to enable 48bit LBA support when I get home and hope that the missing 120 gigs magically reappears.
This is the second LAN in a row where I have had HD problems (seperate systems), so now you know why this blog entry is titled so.

Now, I need to go and empty some stuff from my head to make room for exciting information on servers and smart card technology tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about the hard drive. Its pretty much the worst thing that can happen to a person at a lan.

well, what I reckoned happened was due to winxps uber gheyness.
when winxp sp2 sees a drive larger than 130 gig, it uses 48bit lba. However, when windows is writing a memory dump, it doesnt use 48bit lba. if the system crashes, while writing a memor dump, it very often will result in a corrupt hard drive. Remember the power cut......

Aw man, that really sucks. That sounds similar to what happened to mine just before the last Darkside. No system disk.
NO WHAT?! ARGHH

Had to swap HDs around and reinstall Windows from scratch, ended up getting a new PSU aswell.

Im having a prob at the moment that sounds something along those lines of richards issue.

Basically my C: is a 200gb drive.. single partition.. when I go over 130gb of data on the drive.. the drive all of a sudden goes very wrong and starts to act up.. with boot failures and just basically failing to boot.. now that Ive removed enough info to put it back to 90gbs of data the machine is running fine.. weird..
