all requirements and questions about the darkside series are covered in the faq here

we hope to have the projector and a huge screen, and possibly some consoles too.

  melachi takes the halo title - 02/01/2004MindPhuck | 17768 views | 9 replies
the finalists played off today in the 3g broadband studio down in henry street in dublin. its a very cool setup down there and the management made everyone feel very welcome, with coffee and tea for all attending.. including the spectators. representatives from microsoft (nicola) and xbox (edel) where on hand and running a very smoothly ran competition.

there was two semi finals, with the best 5 of each semi coming out to play in the finals. the final was played over three maps with the total score of each map added together to get the overall winner.

some exciting games and very close at times. melachi took the overall winners prize, with myg coming fast behind him with only 5 frags in the difference. bk coming 3rd. as you can see from the scores below, it was a very tight competition and it could have went any way. congrats to rick (aka melachi), who goes on to play for ireland in los angelus on the 15-17th of feburary. gluck man!

1st - mel (73 points)
2nd - myg (67)
3rd - bk (54)
4th - combatcow and amcoy (47)
5th - hellraiser (46)
6th - bluewing (45)
7th - ronin (43)

some screenies -

the finalists

game on!

bk gets presented with his prize

myg gets his prize

melachi - halo champion of ireland 04!

the cost is just €5 per person and of course it is a byoc event.

i will have a 10/100mb 24 port switch for the day and should also have a 16port back up just in case after what happened @ dundalk 1, if anyone has a projector and is will to bring it please let me know.

games:

counterstrike 1.6 offline version 6
generals zero hour
age of mythology - titans v1.01
halo(make sure it has the most recent update)
unreal tournament
quake3 - pointrelease v1.32

halo, quake iii and unreal tournament will be played at the same time.
zero hour and aom will be played at the same time also.
note: need to confirm version for unreal
as it gets closer to the event teams will be assigned for all games. cs will be played using clan match rules, 4 pseudo clans will be created for the day. halo will be capture the flag, map to be agreed. maps & where appropiate teams for the other games also need to be arranged but i will let you know soon.

please have all games you intend to play installed & working on your machine before the event if possible. you can email me to arrange getting 1.6 offline exe.

the sessions
first: counterstrike 1.6(approx 2 hours)
second: zero hour & aom(approx 5 hours)
third: halo, unreal 2k3 & quake iii(approx 3.5 hours)

now i don't mean to whine but i am going to be very strict about this because nothing got to me more the last day than this, i want all atendees to stick to the sessions, while everyone is playing cs i don't won't a tiny group off playing another type of game simply because they don't like the game. if there is another game propose it to be before the event and i see what the demand is like for it. the whole point of going to a large lan is to play together.

requirements:

a decent pc of course using either windows 2k or xp.
network cable of decent length, like this is a big room so a good few meters.(cat 5 or better).
power entension leed.
headphones(no speakers!)

- i want to try and make this into a regular event, bi-monthly or something so if successful i will try and make this arrangement a permanent one with the hotel.

we have now got sponsorship from the dkit which means these lans will now become a regular event here in dundalk, probably monthly. unfortunately there will still be a fee, €5 for this event(which lets be honest is very cheap). all proceeds will go towards purchasing a society owned dedicated server and since the switch belongs to me after that a society owned switch aswell. this equipment will mean that next college year the society will be able to have another series of events after i've left.

  .. and that was 2003. - 06/01/2004MindPhuck | 11390 views | 2 replies

another lovely year passes and were going from strength to strength.  more changes
to the web site occurred this year with a completely re-written site in early 2003. i
would like to think the re-write has made the site even more successful but in
reality, its you members of the laning community that has really made an impact.

still stealing the limelight in the top poster count is href="http://www.room101.org/profile.asp?item=1">myself (just about), the followed by href="http://www.room101.org/profile.asp?item=265">bluewing, href="http://www.room101.org/profile.asp?item=109">syxpak racing up behind bluewing
and closely followed is biohazrd.
(i feel like i'm commenting on a horse racing fixture).  next along is href="http://www.room101.org/profile.asp?item=137">stan, href="http://www.room101.org/profile.asp?item=2">lordkhan, href="http://www.room101.org/profile.asp?item=630">marclar, href="http://www.room101.org/profile.asp?item=165">cyberfartmart, href="http://www.room101.org/profile.asp?item=3">dardoz (aka i'm off to mexico with
some bootiful burd) and hunter.

top lan attendee's : now this has been an interesting one to watch.
  last years champions were strat
and ppc have been de-throned by
the energetic bluewing who went
to a total of 29 lans.. in less than a year.  hats off to you travis!  and strat, coming from a 7 lans from
last year have leaped to 27 lans attended.  similarly, marclar
shooting up to 23 lans.  shocking stuff!  have you guys no lives at all ?
it breaks down like so -

top attenders
29 - href="http://www.room101.org/profile.asp?item=265">blue-wing
27 - href="http://www.room101.org/profile.asp?item=27">strat

17 - href="http://www.room101.org/profile.asp?item=728">spud
16 - href="http://www.room101.org/profile.asp?item=189">myg

now, a little controversy at this point.  some of the attendees (and i'm not saying
who) signed up for lans and didn't go.. just to get their names up higher on the listings.
now, for the benefit of lan owners, i will be putting in a facility to allow lan
creators 'sin bin' people who didn't go and can be banned from the next lan or banned
indefinitely.

top viewed lans : shocking the amounts of hits! add each of those lan's together, thats a whole lotta people refreshing.. i'll say no more..

top lan creators
: this award, in my own honest opionon, is the most important.
without you lan creators and fellow organisers, we would not have such an active
community.   i think we owe a big pat on the back and a round of applause to you
guys.  we also not forgetting the unsung heros here : the people who help the
organisers setup the servers, setup the desks, chairs, etc, feed the animals, solve
network issues, clear up when weve all fecked off.. you know who you are and also, without
you guys, things just wouldn't get done.  we should have a lan organsers pissup soon
i think!

i have tried by my best to answer emails quickly, i would like to think that your input
has not gone ignored and that i put in those features you wanted, is there more you want
in?  if so, let me know and we'll get cracking on them.  overall, i think we
have doubled the numbers of people who have registered on the site, from 450+ to just
under a 1000 members.  our little community is definately expanding based on the
number of lans that have been created.  if you take into account that at the end of
2002 there was nearly 30 lans.  in 2003, we had 65 lans!  like.. hello? theres only 52 weeks in a year! thats some increase in
our likkle community

anyway, thats all for now.  gluck for '04.
