equipment needed

a pc or laptop (pentium 2 minimum), with a network card
headphones - speaker are not allowed!
a quad strip to connect your pc to the power supply.

how long?

we will be officially kicking off at about 5.30pm
and playing untill about the same time sunday
with 24 hour access thats nearly 72hours worth of gaming
what if i turn up early?

anyone who turns up before that will be able to access the venue, and have their pc safely stored
we hope to have a gamecube and large tv on-site to provide distraction untill the event is ready to kick off, there are also arcade machines and pool tables in the room next-door for use before and during the event
will it be any good

it should be good. although we won't be having a huge mega crowd we should still have plenty to have some good games, bring whatever you want to play and you'll definatly have someone to play against.

hardware will be all switchs
have aquired 3 24-port switches, which we will be putting through their paces at the lan.
the reason we havn't made this a 72 person lan is we're still pushing the buildings power supply to see how far it'll go.
any hardware that can be brought to the event would be greatly appriciated and rewarded.
facilities

there is a car park directly opposite the venue.
its also directly over one of the campus pubs with two others within 5 min walking distance
'kip rooms' will be provided, as well as vending machines at the location.
also the nearby four star pizza does deliveries
competitions and prizes?

yes, we have a one-on-one quake 3 tournament
and a 4-person-team counterstrike tournament
in the case of the quake 3 tournamnet, your opponents will be selected at random, and the maps have been decided by the organisers
the counterstrike teams are up to the players, find 3 buddies (or strangers) and take on everyone else
prizes have been suplied by our sponsers, intouch computers.

darkside v - 24 hour lan - 10am sat - 10am sun byopc. i won't list all the games to be played, because basically, if you want to play it, bring it along and i'm sure you will find someone who will join in. 100mbit switched network, 3 dedicated game servers, 1 dedicated mp3 server. there will be tournaments / competitions and there will be some prizes. i am going to put up a €100 prize for quake iii - knockout tournament - winner takes all

this time its gonna be cs
21st december 10 pm - 10 am
€15 + free entry to tournament.
the tourney will be run along the same lines as the q3, its gonna be 2 v 2 random teams with €100 for the winners.

room101.org - a year later.
yes, its been a year. happy birthday to room101 and all that. god, that flew! we've
had some interesting times over the last twelve months, with dns changes to server
failures and some fantastic lans. i've just renewed the domain for another year and
i hope its going to be another good one. i feel the web site has been a success and
it has done the job which i set out to do. i have been working on a slightly newer
version of the web site over the last few weeks which is faster, adds more functionality
and some nice features for those who run lans. hopefully i will have that
completed before or over the christmas period.
the raid controller problems should be solved soon as i have been given a nice new 80
gig hard drive and new ide controller, from santa claus,

another great lan party here in ul ... all 100mbps switches and such 
byopc (bring you own pc)
may have retail pcs but we just don't know yet at all.
reminder, when coming bring ear phones and also a quad strip for your pc
no point having 60 pcs and several consoles all splitting sound with each other.
we'll be playing just about any major game possible. quake1/3 and some quake 2 for those weird people... team fortress in qw. avp1/2 bf1942, wolfenstein/ counter strike, star craft, total annihilation.
if you are planning to come but are short a network card email damocles@skynet.ie reply might be slow  .
we'll be playing a good number of games hopefully and also if we are lucky we can get some competitions with prizes going too.
little end note:
it is full 24hrs each day from 9am friday til 10/11 sunday and we have a room for people to crash in at night in the back or during the day.
