well now then, what have we here, a LAN in Limerick eh, with penalty points for not going to Limerick Uni (*ie paying 20 buckeroos)... no chance mate... free lans held here in Dublin with prizes, eg check out the 48hour plus LAN held by BlueWing with comps and everything... who in their right mind would go to Limerick with such discrimation... 10 euros a head, then I might consider but this flagrant fee for "outsiders" (didn't think that term was ever used inside LANning circles) is ridiculous and there are plenty better LANs in Galway Waterford and Dublin to keep me happy thank you very much... One fee = All lanners Fight the power

Soory ye all see this as unfair but let me expalin the charges... G-Soc is a University of Limerick Games Society, hence why all our members get a special rate, its a incentive for students to sign up to our society. The charge is €2 for UL students to sign up to the society, where it is over €20 for non-UL students to sign up. The charges goes towards coverin the prices for rental of tables plus any profit is put directly into a fund in order to buy more switches for the society so we can host bigger and better LAN's. This is only our third LAN so we are improving as we go, this LAN is using the 3 24switches we bought from the profits of the last 2 lans combined. This LAN is promised to be better than the last two, with the added experience of our LAN masters and remember you can go to the cinema for €7 but thats 3hrs of entertainment tops......

well. I take it you dont have to be a member of G-Soc to attend this LAN. So then it will only cost €7 for any1 coming from further affield.

The €7 is for ppl who are students of UL but not members of G-Soc. The €7 includes €5 for the LAN plus €2 to sign up to the Society. The prizes for the Q3 duel hasnt been decided yet but last time we had a digital camera for first place and a memory stick for second! i'll post the prizes as soon as i know them.

The origins of the G~Soc LAN lie in the local gamers from way back with GameNet - FragNet - G~Soc. The pricing came from Lord Khan who claimed to be experienced in the old LAN party bits. The biggest problem is renting-in tables worth €140+. We found repeatedly that those who travelled tended to fail to turn up the most and leave us with empty expensive tables. Covering this cost is the main prioity. The more local Limerick people we can CONFIRM, the less a risk high % empty tables become. When we started, we could only run the first few parties with the help from a few groovey people. As it stands now, we've got 3 2nd hand switches and a load of power cables and stuff so, other than the gradual growth that we'll need, we intent looking at reducing the price, definitely. We're sorry if the pricing ticks you off, especially since you have to hop in a car and buzz down but we do hold competitions with sweet prizes and a sweet location. We've got in contact with a few local people well up for a big LAN so G~Soc LANs are just gonna get better and better. The last one was smaller but rocked so much more than the previous ones I've seen in my 3 years here.
